Leave them in,David...makes the picture more personal.
Anyway, rail transport was built for the human being in anycase.Onlookers in any form adds to the enjoyment.

I do agree to a certain extent, they are part of the moment if you like and are not too intrusive. Would an editor consider such an image though?

Wouldn't be much of a railway without the PW Dept. Such a shame that those pesky trains keep spoiling all their good work!

Yes,I worked in publishing(newspapers & magazines) all my life, and human interest makes a photograph, the more the merrier.Airbrushing people from the face of the earth looks unreal. Some of the masterpieces in photography images contain people.Anyway, railways were built for transporting people around from A-B and to make profits for the companies that run them.
    Anyway,we are moving away from today's Canterbury trip...nice shot,David.

She was around 20 late by the time she got to Maidstone, and with 13 on she went up Bearsted bank very well. On time tonight on Sole St and despite the load she was not really extended but still sounded very fine and was going a fair speed.

I was amused to read in the Kentish Express that " Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 Britannia....will be passing through Ashford"

I didn't realize they'd given Britannia an extra cylinder when they restored her

Surprised that no one has posted a report from the tour. I was on the trip so here goes.
I must say as a Tangmere fan I was initially disappointed when she was substituted so near to the trip date, but 70000 proved a very worthy replacement. From the start it was a determined run through the pick up stations to London with some nice fast running during the morning. Away from London into Kent we ran without any real problems or signal checks to reach Canterbury. The real fun began immediately leaving for the return run. From the start the 20 miles or so to Ramsgate and Margate was pretty much regulator in the roof making a glorious sound. The rest of the run to the water stop at Whitstable was more of the same, great stuff. Sole Street bank was next taken with great control by the crew, just one slight slip but all well under control, and again what a great noise. Back into London and a wander up through Olympia and Willesden and back through Brentford saw us on the last leg. Once back through Woking it was back to good solid fast running and almost on time back at Salisbury.
In conclusion a great day out with thanks to the footplate crews, support crew and Steam Dreams, but most of all 70000.

I can't really add anything further on what was a fantastic day out. Some people say that 70000 doesn’t match the sound of 70013 but yesterday she more than matched her sister. I thought it would be hard to beat the sound of 70013 up Sapperton a couple of years ago but 70000 certainly did that! Ta to all involved.
