Thanks for the first picture, certainly brought some memories back of my "trainspotting" days at Reading. Don't remember that particular trip but as for the rest, yes! 6991 was a regular station pilot at the time, the East Main Signal Box, semaphores, inspection pit, Southern Station in the background. Also the new colour light signals which came into force six months later, all just like yesterday. How ironic that the new power box that came with them has just been demolished as part of the new station rebuild.
The best part of of picture is that there is no Warship/Hymek/Western in sight!

 

The photo of Liverpool Street reminded me of how filthy it was in steam days, surely the worst of the London termini. There was a gents below the concourse....it was like descending into hell.
