Not always possible on the S&C. I've found in the past that I have no phone coverage between about Kirkby Stephen and Horton In Ribblesdale!

First time I've seen 46115 today and the temptation of Staniers finest at work in the Northern Fells was too much so the long trek north had to be done . Saw people out yesterday I haven't seen for years

Nice shots those, so well worth the trip. The road traffic in the dales was horrendous as usual......

My second upload of the day (on a roll!) showing 46115 at Selside, Ais Gill and Hellifield:

I've rarely captured a loco slipping but, for once, it all happened right in front of me.

Sun and steam on the S&C 30 July 2011

This was a glorious, sunny summer's day and two Stanier express locomotives were due out to Carlisle and back. I decided to turn my back on my usual station vantage points, and head up into the northern fells. I joined the large gallery just north of Ais Gill, which I had so often seen as a steam train passenger. The last patches of shadow disappeared as we first picked up, way down Mallerstang, the smoke and noise of LMS Pacific No 6201. We watched and snapped as she roared up the valley, under the bridge and on to the summit - a wonderful sight.

In the next two hours, I drove down to Kirkby Stephen for coffee and cake, then on to the station where I planned to watch Royal Scot 4-6-0 No 46115 Scots Guardsman at a lower point in the climb. The beautifully restored station looked wonderful in the sunlight, and again the smoke and the bark of the engine preceded its arrival by several minutes. Sadly a shadow had fallen across the station and my main shot failed to freeze the engine. So I have only a going away shot by which to remember the final chapter of a memorable day of sun and steam in North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

The camera work from some of you is brilliant. I do have to congratulate richard aka wazza588. I consider the camera work as a questionable full time pro

Thank you very much Kesr!! Although I’m not sure about been a pro... The camera just captured the moment. The sun was good, location good and everything was just right. None of those photos posted have been through Photoshop, they are straight off the card. It’s with thanks to the crew for producing some clag on such a hot day that is the icing on the cake.
    Regards Richard

Nowt wrong with a bit of thunder and lightning! The rain has eased off a bit at Ribblehead at last. Glad I had a change of clothes in the car though. Time for a pint and something to eat before the southbound trips.

Enjoyed those, nice smooth pan on the first clip and the rain adds atmosphere to the second. Good work :)
