As it stands she is going there for undercover storage and to free up a bit of space at Ropley.

Whether or not an overhaul is in the pipeline in the near future i have no idea.

I thought that the tender was going back to Loughborough by road.

Oh well. I've plenty of other things to get on with instead. Was there a problem on the move from Ropley to Alton perhaps?

Is 35005 still at the MHR? A family friend who lives right next to the line at Aldershot said that he heard something noisy and heavy (i.e. a diesel) go past at around 00.50 Friday morning.

Thought the tender was being paired with Wadebridge for the time being as its own (also borrowed) was leaking badly

As I understood it, 35005's tender is currently being used by 34007. 34039's tender, which has been used with 34007 since restoration, would be going with 35005 to Eastleigh and then on to Loughborough.

Surely the simple solution would be to have 35005 tender with 35005. 35007 to have 35007 tender and 34039 tender to be with 34039

As 73129 said the Class 66 66723 Chinook left as there is a letter with pictures of it on the MHR but nothing was mentioned of it moving 35005 so I'd guess she's still there although 66723 was heading to Eastleigh.

I think you mean 34007 and its tender was as far as I know was being built at Bodmin and was paired with 34039's to run with until its own was ready though If this is wrong can someone clairfy. Last I heard was a poster here saying 34007's tender was in one of the headshunts (Alton I think).

34007 was having its own tender built for it while being overhauled at Bodmin. Tank built by Iron Brothers of Wadebridge, frames ordered as part of a batch with other Bulleid owners.

When 34007 was returned to steam, the tender was not ready so the tender from 34039 was hired from its owners. This tender has been with the loco since. 34007's own tender is currently stored, in bits, on the MHR, with work being done on a gradual basis (tender wheels to the original BFB pattern recently being cast, IIRC).

34039's tender tank is now in need of much work, and so as a stop-gap solution 34007 is borrowing 35005's tender, as was done on innumerable occasions in steam days with tenders being swapped around between locos. To move 35005 to Eastleigh requires the loco being coupled to a tender though, so it has to use the 'spare' (34039) tender to do so. Once it has moved to Eastleigh, it is a convenient opportunity to return 34039's tender, by road, to Loughborough for the work to be done, and for it to be reunited with 'its' loco.
