well 44932 is running at the moment with a tender so (and I haven't heard it's a borrowed one) it wasnever going to be 44932's . 45699's would presumably be Green or Red (depending on chosen livery)

62005 is under overhaul at Carnforth so logic takes you to that engine

The bottom end (frames wheels ect) of 62005 isn't at carnforth its now at darlington under serious repair.

The rebuild of Lindsay was undertaken I believe. By john marrow in the NCB workshops in wigan

Having researched the loco. There isn't that much of the origional left. If anyone has any information pertaining to the owners "the Lindsay partnership" I would be very interested in hearing from you via a personal message on here. Thanks

Lindsay was owned by the trust set up for the purpose. From memory which becomes more defective as I age the family involved were called Anderson. I was at the auction in Preston when it was sold and it fetched far more than I expected. I only managed to get a Preston docks nameplate.
It had a new firebox fitted before it arrived at steamtown. It was a very popular engine despite the very open cab
I am currently putting the history of steamtwon up on the web as think its of interest and I probably know as much about what happened certainly up to around 1990. There is a picture of Lindsay in action shunting about 1982

    See http://freespace.virgin.net/hanson.mike/Steamtown.htm

Regarding ownership of The Lindsay I discovered yesterday that my late uncle Wlfrid Calderbank who lived in Wigan became a part-owner of The Lindsay some time during the 70's. I'm not a "locomotive buff" (apologies for the expression if it offends - its not meant to!) After the death of Wilfrids wife recently (my aunt Hilda) I have inherited this part-ownership and hence the interest. If anyone else has any further info I'd be interested in hearing from them. Thanks Frank

Lindsay was overhauled by John Marrow Snr when he was colliery engineer at Quaker House Colliery, Billinge near Wigan. The boiler needed a lot of work, I think a lot more was done besides the firebox, such as a new barrel. Last I heard the loco had damage to the back end after a heavy shunt or collision. Whe I saw it working at Carnforth I was very impressed with it. The Anderson family owned Quaker House Colliery, father and son managed the mine, and it is correct that they purchased the loco.

Its last NCB colliery was in North Wales at Hafod near Wrexham. This mine was close to Bersham Colliery, it was connected underground to it and the site of Hafod is on the other side of the dual carriageway marked by an overgrown low spoil tip. Lindsay was delivered by BR but was never used at Hafod and the coupling rods were never refitted. I remember it sitting in Maudland Metals scrapyard in Preston for many years before it was purchased for preservation. It would look superb on a train of vintage coaches.

As far as I know Lindsay is stored in the shed at 10A, last steaming was October 1994. I think it is owned by Mr. Anderson and the Lindsay Loco Trust.

I also remember the loco being advertised for sale by small ad in the back of one of the railway magazines. Possibly early 1980's.

As the photos of Lindsay at the start of this thread disappeared with the demise of Fotopic and anyone is wondering what this unique loco looks like here's a period pic of him/her. Ray. Lindsay.jpg

Looks like she's had a few changes over the years - riveted saddletank now gone, nameplate mounted differently, dome cover now much less elegant shaped, safety valve bonnet now gone, rather ugly pipework added to safety valve mount, maker plates gone and there's something about the chimney that look different.

Still a lovely looking loco though!
