You'll have a problem positioning 34081 anywhere as we'll be lifting the frames from the wheels very soon and with the boiler down in Kent there's precious little to see anyway.

The DB '64' tank has gone under cover into the open-ended shed, along with 0-6-0ST "Derek Crouch". This is after many years spent in the open which has got to be a good thing. Photos of the engines in their new location on the blog linked below, or this link direct to the relevant posting: http://nene-valley.blogspot.com/2011/07/shunting-locos.html. I have heard a rumour from another volunteer about the German tank, but how reliable this is I do not know. Will have to see what happens (if anything).

I see the line about 34081's location has been corrected on the website! Shed tours seem to be on offer again this year so donations in the pot would be much appreciated! :)

I believe attempts are being made behind the scenes to get a visiting steam loco for this event, including one that I'd love to see there, but whether we will manage to get one remains to be seen - last year didn't go our way on that front unfortunately.

Hope this helps for now, even though I'm uncertain about quite a bit of it! More information should emerge nearer the time.

    Regards, Paul

Good to see the NVR pushing the boat out with two interesting visitors. Hopefully they'll pull in the crowds and the money.

Will 73050, 4936, 71000 and 44422 just have the mk1 set to haul passenger wise?

Any chance of 2 passenger rakes & 1 freight, as a 1 train service won't give many travel opportunity sadly?

The 3 train mixed weekend was good, as are the diesel weekends when 3 sets are out.

Best of luck with the event.

    Hello all,

Please see my photo of 73050's first weekend back in service, after essential work was required to replace both the locomotives steam pipes.

With our steam gala fast approaching, this is great news in preperation for reuniting the Standard 5 with 71000.

Look forward to seeing as many of you there next month. I will be on Kinlet Hall on Sunday, so come say hello if your around.

    Cheers,
    Oli (NVR Fireman)

With regard to the number of rakes out, i don't think we'll get an answer until the timetables are published. The last gala, using the 'Wagon Lits' set was good, but maybe with the MK1's, the TPO and the goods, they think theres just not enough room for another set. It did cause a lot of shunting having the extra set out at the last gala.

Good for us photographers but meant a very busy couple of days for the yard forman at Wansford.

Incidently, if anyone is searching for a reason to attend this gala heres a link to photo's of the last one: http://chriskempster.zenfolio.com/p464059956

Quite possibly the best gala I've been to, and without any visitors.

Imagine what they can do in September with 'The Duke' and 'Kinlet Hall'!!

Headcode is 0Z49 for 4936's move. Suggests light engine, no support coach.

All being well there will be shed tours so those wishing to see progress on 34081 will have the opportunity to do so. Our sales stall will also be there so bring plenty of money. :)

Nice coincidence - was planning to go up there on the Friday so will have to keep an eye out for that!

As for the Mk1s, perhaps not this year, but maybe next year, or the year after, or the year after that? Who knows, but there have recently been stirrings on this front as two rakes of Mk1s are a long-held ambition among many people on the railway and enough vehicles are present albeit unrestored... see http://nene-valley.blogspot.com/2011/08/mk1s-emerge.html As an update to this, I am told efforts have been made to clean the graffitied coach externally although there is still more to do.

You'll probably find that the timetable won't be published until the week before the event. No doubt there are still a few decisions being made about what engine on which train and what time.

I'm still curious to see what they do about the second rake. I'd be surprised if they only run one rake of passenger coaches but i've seen no mention anywhere of anymore than that.

The roster has five engines in steam. The Mk1's, goods and TPO are only three trains. Even with one engine acting as a spare or a swapper, whats the fifth doing?
