I know it's only the 86 leg, but we've just arrived at Milton Keynes 15'E! We went via the WCML and did not get routed via Northampton as booked!

However have had to wait for booked path at Milton Keynes....

Ha Ha Stuart- Surprisingly no hedge hopping required today

....and yes it makes a change to not have squadrons of midges dive bombing me

Just got back myself. Great day. My that 86 southbound leg was a great ride leaving Preston 10 mins late and getting to MK 15 early with the slight short cut. I don't think we hardly came under 90mph anywhere between Preston and MK. The improved WCML is now such a racetrack that locos like the 86 must be putting in better performances than when they were in their pomp in the 70's and 80's.

Oh and Ollie C wasn't bad either, and the sun shone and gave us a nice bright S&C run.

Wasn't a bad end to the day was it? Was really impressed with the whole Day. OC stealing the show but that Southbound run was the 86 was good, Fast Line all the way I think? Shame we still arrived about 10 down though!

Just the best weather on the S&C that I've experienced and one of the best all round days this old hand has had. Railway wise that is!

Certainly a lot better than the day before. I've only just dried out after getting drenched standing at Ais Gill waiting for the 8F!

Couple of nice shots of the Brit today, plus 4 really rubbish ones of the Black 5 on the SSE. Sun went behind clouds for no more than 2 minutes at both Kirkham Abbey and Little Fenton! The less said about Stourton the better.

What a great trip. Well worth the early train from Bath and the last one back, bit of along day.

Thank's to every body involved in yesterday's trip as said before the 86 coming back was superb, it's a pity the support crew had such a short time to service the loco at carlisle another half hour and the fire would have been sorted out for a better run at shap.

Using a Class 86 or similar is definitely the best way of getting people from London to the north for steam on a day trip without it turning into a marathon. All that now needs to happen is for NR to path such charters via the direct route and not via Northampton. After all, running at 95 - 100 mph is hardly going to hold up things too much. And it will bring trips like Copy Pit et al into the sights of us down south without an 'overnight'. So SD/RTC please note for the future.
