Second question. Depends where on the lineside the fire was. Close to a running line then they'd shut it to protect the fire crews plus if it was really close they'd turn off the power for a number of reasons - water being one of them.

I can only think a closure would be needed if signal cables or other track side equipment was damaged.

I understand normal practice is to take the rods off, not something that can be done too easily, and restrict the speed. Not practicable when you have to move quite a long way amongst much faster traffic.

Do we know whether 777 & 70013 have made it as far as Southall yet?

I shudder to thing how much the penalty payments will amount to. Hope someone's got good insurance.

Do these screens sit behind the dampers themselves in the ashpan? I have heard of them before now but I've not physically been under a loco that has them fitted.

Apparently there's a limit, at least for operators like WCRC, when it comes to such repayments - if there wasnt, one failure in an unfortunate place could bankrupt a company.

Just seen a report that a WCRC diesel is en route to Newark to rescue the two steamers. Booked departure from Newark is 15:07 with a scheduled arrival at Southall of 19:20.

Hi all - sounds a bit of a disaster for all concerned.

Does anyone have any facts as opposed to opinions about whether this episode will impact tomorrow's or any future trips?

    Thanks

    Mike

Steam Railway have tweeted that 777 is no longer on tomorrow's train (I also posted this to the ACE thread)

47580 was the loco booked to drag 70013 and 30777, though report on a Yahoo group says NR have refused permission for the move.

Hi guys - I'm new. I found this site looking for info about yesterdays lineside fire and it's great how quickly you spread the word. Problem was that I was on one of the delayed trains. That meant I missed a flight and so now won't be seeing my family this weekend plus wasted £200+ on tickets. One story amongst thousands I expect. I don't want people put out of work, but if someone at WCRC has fouled up then the company needs to be held accountable. Same goes for any other avoidable incident by anyone else. I for one intend pursuing WCRC for compensation.

Correct. Network Rail has refused 70013 & 30777 to move even tho diesel has arrive to move them.

Hi Jaffacake, really sorry to hear about your screwed up weekend. Not sure you can pursue WCRC as you have no contract with them - if you want to pursue anyone you need to contact the train company you were travelling with. They may or may not pursue Network Rail who in turn may or may not pursue WCRC. Welcome to the ridiculous world of the privatised railway.

Hope you get to see your family soon,

    Mike

Looking at UK steam info this could also inpact on the 2 runs with 70013 on the Hop Picker and Spitfire tours as well as the ACE if NR have now refused the move.
