Atlantic Coast Express 4th-6th Sept.

Well done to Steam Dreams for continueing with the tour and making the best of it after all the problems. The voucher and price deductions are very much appreciated. Thanks to all involved again.

Was still a good weekend,made up by the day in between. A shame more tours cant visit Newquay,particularly out of season it is a brilliant place to visit.

Excuse my pedantry, but I recall from my youth that the North Devon portion was split off at Exeter Central, and it was Okehampton that saw a split of the Plymouth portion, leaving the North Cornwall portion to carry on to Halwill (the village, not the station, had the Junction suffix) where the Bude portion split off, leaving two coaches in winter to go on to Padstow. Bodmin did not get a portion and the good people of the real Cornish county town (Bodmin kept the assizes, later Crown Court, until 1985) had to change at Wadebridge. In 1963, Plymouth lost its portion and had to make do with a connection into the ACE at Okehampton.

In summer, at least on Saturdays, virtually everywhere had its own ACE train. Happy days!

 

I was trying to explain where the the lines diverged for each destination rather than where the coaches were actually split off. Sorry for any confusion. <BJ>

 

No problem. So sad that most of these places are no longer junctions, indeed mostly not even on the map for regular services.

Excellent video at New Bridge, but what has happened to Britannia's whistle? It sounds as if it has been beaten up with a 1 5/8 spanner.

Here is my try, having travelled on a unit from Barnstaple to Yeoford in the rain. The whistle sounds even worse!
