As an aside, interesting comment in latest Heritage Railway that 62005 will be paying a visit to the line early next year.

If true, it would tie with the rumour I hear about what was coming for the Spring Gala. I won't repeat that rumour, it isn't too good to do so ;)

Very enjoyable day at the SVR for 'Peep behind the Scenes'. A mate of mine joined me and he was very impressed with the Carriage works in particular. Highlight for me was the shuttle into the carriage sheds, however, next time could it be possible to connect the shuttle with the service trains?! I wanted to catch the 3pm and we had a great view of it departing as we came back into Kidder station on the dmu :( Apparently the shuttle was roughly half hourly, but departed when the driver saw fit). With the next train not til 4.50pm I had to miss out on Bewdley, always next year! Overall an excellent event that seemed well patronised and hopefully raised plenty of money for 4150, a really useful loco for the railway that was higlighted by the spirited peformance of 5164 to and from Bridgnorth.
Was also good to cop Dunrobin (a handsome looking loco even minus boiler), see the significant progress on Taw Valley and spot a certain LNER pacific's wheels in Bridgnorth shed, although I don't think we were meant to notice them!

I was selling wristbands on P2 at Bridgnorth on the Saturday, and took a couple of ad-hoc tours round when the numbers built up.

2857 - Churchward, Ex GWR… was due to be in service for 28 consecutive days starting from 20 August (2857 website) but was unavailable from 3-7 September for ashpan, grate and boiler repairs (SVR website).
5164 - Prairie Tank, Ex GWR… had a valve and axlebox repairs the week of 10 September (SVR website).
7812 - Collett 'Erlestoke Manor', Ex GWR... had a washout and boiler exam the week of 10 September (SVR website).
42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS... had a washout and boiler exam week of 3 September (SVR website)
43106 - Ivatt Class 4, LMS-design... attended the North Norfolk Railway for their Grand Steam Gala 2 - 4 September and will be towed back to Bridgnorth 15 September for washout and boiler exam (SVR website).
Catch me who can... was in steam for the Peep Behind The Scenes weekend on 3-4 September.

    5029 & 6024 will travel Bristol - Kidder on 19 Sept (UKsteam)
Footplate charter with Caledonian Railway 828 2 October 2011... The Friends of Locomotive 4930 Hagley Hall have organised a footplate charter with ex Caledonian Railway 828. This will be a unique opportunity to travel on the footplate of the loco on the Severn Valley Railway, when the loco makes its first trip out of Scotland in Preservation. The trip will include at least 7 miles on the footplate of the locomotive with the crew so you can get to feel of what it’s like to work on such a unique locomotive. For the rest of the trip we will have the use of the Shrewsbury Saloon which will be serving light refreshments. We hope you can join us for the trip, with all proceeds going to the restoration of 4930 Hagley Hall. The price for this once in a life time trip is £49.30. There will also be limited places for guests at £25. There are also limited places available at £25 to have a round trip in the saloon behind the loco without the footplate ride. Places sold on first come first served basis. If you would like to join us on this on this day out then please fill in the form below and send your cheque made payable to ‘Friends of locomotive 4930 Hagley Hall’ to 828 Footplate Ride, Railway Station, Hollybush Road, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WV16 5DT. Hi,

Looking to visit SVR 30th Sept, 1st/2nd Oct. Any ideas on what motive power might be in use then (subject to the usual caveats)?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Manning Wardle 2047 'Warwickshire' has had its boiler and tank lifted on Friday 16th September 2011. This is the start of the long anticipated overhaul of this locomotive, which was an active early member of the Severn Valley Railway fleet. Work is going to initially focus on design and approval of a new boiler, this will replace the current boiler which is beyond economic repair

    From SVR website:

    92212 Leaving Kidder Tuesday
    4160 Leaving Kidder Monday
    60163 Leaving Kidder Wednesday

42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS... was out for glands and valves to repack the week of 17 September (SVR website). She was reported back in traffic 21 September (SMF website)

43106 - Ivatt Class 4, LMS-design... attended the North Norfolk Railway for their Grand Steam Gala 2 - 4 September. She was towed back to Bridgnorth 15 September for washout and boiler exam, and the MPD put in hard work to cure a leaking regulator, washout plug and dome gasket, and a broken spring (SVR website and SVRA forum [22 September]). I *think* she returned to traffic today

5164 continues valve and axlebox repairs (SVR website)

No I do not currently volunteer
After the success of the hiring in of 92212 do we think there should be a regular hire in loco for the whole operating season to give something different that the railway does not usually have.
Then balnce the book by hiring out one of the smaller members of the valleys own fleet.
Suggests midland railway centres standard 5 Manston Sir laminar.

Given the number of locos on the SVR, I would not describe having to hire in a loco to maintain services all summer as a "success"
