Eastbound (the wrong way) departure from New Street followed by a tour around Aston and Bescot to Wolverhampton, then via WCML to Liverpool. Is this due to pathing problems or is there a clearance restriction through Soho and Smethwick?

I see you have 5 hours in Liverpool, guess it will be needed by the time the train has been hauled out of Lime Street, and 5043 gone on a long trek to turn...

I assume it because steam is still not allowed to pass through New Street under its own power, although it can be dragged into New St from Tyseley and remain in the open and can pass through diesel-hauled on the return.

Although it could surely be dragged so that it was facing out of the other end?

EDIT: Silly me it can't! I assumed there was a connection between the Camp Hill line and the Aston line which there isn't.

I was wondering how they'd turn it around - looks like the Earlestown triangle.

Looking forward to seeing this one as most Liverpool railtours use the non-electrified route via Manchester Victoria or Wigan rather than head under the wires to and from Crewe (my local station is the first one out of Edge Hill on the Crewe line so will nip down to see it there).

Not sure you'll be seeing it at Rainhill if it returns via Runcorn

Don't forget that the movement out of Lime Street is diesel hauled so turning the whole train at the Parkside triangle is perfectly possible, but then Winwick Junction is also mentioned which confuses the whole issue. Through Newton LW left a by the former Parkside colliery, through Lowton Junc and onto the WCML, rev and down to Winwick junc, then rev again back to Earlestown..???

Hope everyone has their tickets and are coming with us! This should be great fun with a blast out of New St and Lime St.

We are dragged out of Lime St and turn on the triangle at Earlstown Station, then dragged back into Lime St by the 47.

As we cannot run a steam engine (in full steam) through B'Ham New St, we are dragged into New St by the 47 for an East Departure. It's the best we can do with New St at this time - nothing to do with pathing, clearences, etc.

    Looking forward to Saturday!

Does this mean the 47 is going to be attached to the train all day ie on the back for the steam sections.

That's what I believe the man from VT says and it would make sense as there aren't all those spare 85s and shunters in Lime St these days to take sets onto Edge Hill who also want a Kings Ransom for stabling.

Considering there's at least 3 sections where rear end diesel assistance is required it makes sense to take it along than have the additional cost of 2 or 3 diesels sent light engine to the various placesthey are needed, in any case the extra weight will make the Castle bark more.
