Had a very good day at the gala today, riding the trains from 9 'til 5.30. I was on both the trains that Foxcote worked, the second one definitely being the better. On the first run it looked like one of the drain cocks was stuck open and the loco just couldn't make enough steam to get up the 1:49. Once the S15 had helped it to Goathland it carried on by itself to Pickering but returned on the rear of 92214's train. On the second run it romped up the bank, blowing off on the way up too. The delay did have an effect on the timetable and delayed everything by at least 30mins, more by the time I left but nobody seemed to mind.
I'd like to go back again tomorrow but I'm not allowed another day! Definitely worth the £20 day rover ticket as it's one of the only places you can actually hear big locos working properly.

As for the weather, it was extremely hot all day but it didn't seem to have any effect on the locos, they were all working hard.

Well 7822 managed to get back to Goathland a whopping 2 hours 40 minutes late! 20.30 instead of 17.50. Lubrication problems at Levisham on the return according to Alberta.

The diner has just left Goathland heading back to Grosmont, only about 20 minutes down now.

Staying on a campsite, no mobile phone reception, yet I've managed to hijack someone's wifi!

Superb video 71000, thanks for sharing. Never heard a 9F making such noise, even in BR days!

As an aside, the NYMR look to have some decent track around, clean deep ballast etc. I did notice on some of the video from the SVR last week that some parts of that line were overdue the weed-killer train. ( I guess I'll get into trouble now....)

Thanks very much, she was very noisy but for the shot at Darnholme I had tweaked the volume levels a bit too high on the camera

My video from last night from the front window behind 7822 (the 14 minute climb from Levisham to Goathland summit) is now uploaded. Could so easily have been climbing to Tallerdiig in the 1950's,what a wonderful sound!!

Dedicated to John Tait who sadly passed away just an hour after this video was filmed after a battle with lung cancer. RIP.

    Cheers,

Very hot today but also pretty busy. Never quite as much as 15 minutes adrift from time as far as I could see. Sorge Station very taken with the Manor, which also seemed to adapt to speak Lancastrian for its second driver of the day! Certainly no repeat of yesterdays problems but instead much of it to plan. Slight loco roster changes when 825 broke a spring (spring changing demonstration added to steam crane demonstration and snow plough demonstration in the blistering mid-day heat) but available for tgraffic by early afternoon and worked the 18:30 tonight.

44767 and 45428 for Battersby tomorrow - first train off Pickering is 08:40, not usual 09:00. 44767 handliong bulk of the Battersby service and all Whitby trains - steam at up to 45 mph for heritage line prices!

Little shot of 7822 arriving at Levisham this afternoon.

Doubt it would have any chance to speak Lancastrian; it wouldn't get a word in edgeways!
Glad it has been OK today. I've been pushing to have a Manor for several years and would have had egg on my face if it had not come up to scratch!

Counting your chickens a little there then?

Manor sounded excellent today, though the Q6 stole the show for me (again!)

If you used the Q6 you need only take the brakes of the Manor and let the decent engine do the work.... but in fairness not all Southern engines are rubbish, though S15s aren't much futher down the list for me than King Arthurs....

Just a case of each to their own....

Well done for getting the spring changed on 825 during the day. I was wondering what had happened to it, and was a bit surprised to see it on the 18.30 to Pickering.

An excellent couple of days up there, including the early morning photo charter. Well done to Matt Fisher for organising it, and thanks for providing the requested smoke at Thomason Foss on the 11.30.

I couldn't make Friday or Saturday so I went on Sunday and after a week of sunshine it rained!

Got to say the sound of the "Super D" and the Q6 from Goathland to Moorgates was worth the soaking.

Pickering Tea Room Supervisor and sometimes guard Colin Kitching, letting acccommodation cleaner Gill. Ktching or most probably Financial Controller Ken Kitching, who retired on Friday after 21 years on the staff, including two spells as Acting Chief Executive. Truly the end of an era on the NYMR - his retirement lasted about 14 hours until he found himself acting as "go-for" for his wife on Saturday morning!

Another good day today - pretty good time-keeping, 44767 very popular on the Battersbys, good numbers about despite the rain at the north end.

It is planned to use the Manor for at least 7 more days before it head home about 19th October. Very likely to include next weekend.
