SVR Diesel Gala 2011

SVR website has comfirmed the following as visiting:
Class 14 D9520
Class 40 D306 'Atlantic Conveyor'
with more to follow.
Home fleet locos will include No. D1062 'Western Courier', Warship No. D820 'Greyhound', Class 20s Nos. D8188 and D8059 and Class 37 No. 37906. 2 50s with be used but as yet undecide which and the DMU will also be running.

The date is 6-8 October 2011

 

Excellent we have found the long lost Warship D820 Grenville, that will look fantastic running in multiple with D821 Greyhound!!

 

SVR is increasingly unpopular with my wallet, and increasinly popular with me! First they get a 9F in the valley so that I'll have to make the long trek north for that....and now they have a Class 40 in the diesel gala (locos my late father used to drive along the North Wales Coast), meaning a return visit for your truly in October.

 

Any SVR gala is hard on the pocket when you live in Cornwall, but I keep coming. Thanks to having grabbed a good Travelodge price, I shall be there in October, even if they can't quite manage Warships double heading - wouldn't that be something really special? Very happy to settle for a teddy bear and one Warship, though preferably not on the same train!

Just a point of order, galas at the SVR can produce queues at the KDR booking office, but you can usually buy your ticket on the train from the TTI provided you can produce cash.
Worth knowing if you are likely to miss your first departure.

 

Chiltern's "Go Further" offer, giving a day's unlimited travel for just £10 per person, is running again on the weekends of the 8th/9th, 15th/16th and 29th/30th of October.

The voucher will also entitle you to free parking at any Chiltern station on the day in question too.

The timetable at the south end was quite good and gave good scope to travelling. It would appear that not enough time was given for the 08 & 11 to travel between bewdley and Kidderminster, a booked time of 15 was more like 20 mins.
I do hope the figures show it went well and that next years is even better.

 

I attended the gala last Thursday and must congratulate the SVR on a holding such a great event for Diesel enthusiasts. Sadly I did not get the opportunity to ride behind all locos on offer due to time, but particularly enjoyed the BR Green Class 25 that was visiting the railway. I think next time I will have to stay in Kidderminster the night before - can anyone recommend a decent hotel in the area for future reference?

 

Wetherlodge in Bewdley is good Or there's a couple of B&Bs in Bridgnorth; I haven't tried Kidd.

 

Good day at the SVR gala on Saturday. Timetable went a bit awry when the 50's collapsed but back on time by the middle of the day. Had some great Maybach action, thanks to the WLA & the DTG - thanks guys for all the hard work. Some clips of 821 back on two engines on the toob,

The Ostrich Inn, close by Hampton Loade station, offers very decent accommodation, good range of bar meals in the evening and a generous breakfast. No, I'm not on commission!
