in response to the comments on here about 7827. Unfortunately she was stopped a week before regatta with firebox and stay problems. The boiler was removed last week in order to gain access to the offending stays. Repair works will get under way shortly. She will not return to service untill 2012 now. Sorry to all off you who were hoping to come and see her, were just as gutted to be having to strip her apart.

Hope all goes well with the repairs. Will she still be black on her return?

Is the loco rostered for this Friday or this coming Tuesday known yet, please?

I'm using the railway and the BR connecting services to get to/from a short holiday in Dartmouth from Paddington - so I get to use the line as it was intended... : - )

Seems the work on Paignton (Queens Park) Station has been started. I'm told the building has been gutted inside !
Also looks like 2 loco's outside sheeted over which ones I don't know.
There is a Notice outside saying Station Closed For Redevelopment with phone number to ring.
Can't find anything about it on there web site thought, Except they seem to be running Santa Specials still this year.

    http://www.dartmouthrailriver.co.uk/events/santa-specials

May be they could add updates on what is going on reference the rebuild work on there news page (just a thought) !
If I find out anymore from relatives that are down there at moment will post !

Been enjoying the Christmas specials over the last couple of weekends. 4277 on duty. We've just moved house and the railway is at the end of our back garden on the climb to Churston. (That played no part in the house choosing process, honest!!)
My 3 year old boy has been all excited waving at the trains. Yesterday he even got a personal tug on the whistle chain which pleased him no end "it whistled for me, it did, it did!!" So, thank you fireman on the 1500 from Paignton!

Quick update on the Paignton Redevelopment.

As you are propbably aware Paignton Queen's Park Station is being rebuilt this year. Most of the steel frame of the old building is being kept as a frame for the new building, most of the cladding materials of the "old" building have now been removed. The stud work for the new walls are going up ready for the new timber walls to be attached to. The building will be extended out into the car park by about 30 feet. The frame for this is up and the masonry for this section is beginning, this will be in railway red and black brick. The workshop will be extended within the building, giving better working space for the Paignton staff.

The new roof should be going on shortly.

Merry Christmas to you all from the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company.

I see on the 2012 timetable there is now a 'Greenway' stop for all downhill trains and morning uphill services. Could someone share some more info on this?

Just a stab in the dark but I would hazard a guess that it is another eco friendly way of getting to Agatha Christie's house at Greenway. The National Trust makes it clear when you visit that arriving by car is not what they like.

I don't believe there is (or has ever been) a station at Greenway. There was a small halt at Britannia Crossing (for the upper ferry) but that's nearer Kingswear than Churston, whilst the timetable suggests the stop is closer to Churston (at least in minutes), as is the Greenway estate.

If this is a station/halt for the estate the times are odd - most traffic would surely come from the Paignton end, but the return services (towards Paignton) from Greenway are only scheduled for the morning services.

    Strange.

Could be to do with the gradient at that point, your asking for a standing start on, what, a 1 in 60 ?, and the afternoon trains often have a couple more coaches or so as demand dictates, The 2-8-0T's might not have trouble but will 7827 start load 9 on a 1 in 60 ?.

The North Norfolk used to (may still) have a similar thing with Kelling Heath Halt in that trains only stopped in the Sheringham direction due to the 1 in 80 at that point.

Or Coleslogett Halt on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway - only served in downhill direction towards Bodmin Parkway. One look at the gradient and the logic is clear!

Interesting. I'll have to go have a nose at the building work. I wonder if they will operate a vintage bus link up to the house. Its a good 0.5km away, maybe too far for some folk to walk along that narrow lane...
