Although the weather was foul on the Saturday of the gala the damp conditions made for some great atmospheric exhaust effects.I started early with a 7.30 visit to the shed at Loughborough fantastic atmosphere with eight engines in steam on site.
The GCR the only preserved line that you can walk around the shed to get close into the morning activity of preparing the engines that smell of hot steam just fantastic. A few shots from Saturday thanks.

We had a very enjoyable 8 hours on Sunday with a lot of variety for anyone who travelled the line to all the stations.
A good mix of Loco's/stock/goods and coal, Mail drop demo, Real Ale, Music, the fabulous Alpine model railway, Traction Engines, Shed Tours etc etc.
Well done all at the GCR.

GCR's Winter Gala is Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th January 2012. No details yet of any theme or visiting locos, but I'm sure all will be revealed in due course.

This seems to be a good place to ask this question. Looking on the MHR web site today under the letters page Warwick Falconer has sent two photos of 34007 on the double track section of the CG. He claims that this section of line has a 40mph maximum speed limit Is this correct and is there any other extra safety measures put in place to allow the speed limit to be increased to 40mph.

    Thanks
