Agreed. The "fast" examples quoted above were all in pretty good nick before the overhauls began. I seem to recall, from magazine articles, that RAH had had lots of things done during routine maintenance which other groups might have left for the overhaul. The net amount of time and money spent was probably the same (for the mileage) but the timing was different. It would appear that the Duchess was not hiding any nasty surprises this time.

According to UKsteam.info, Princess Elizabeth's boiler certificate expires in March next year, so we will be without a Stanier pacific on the mainline for a little while but, given the progress reported so far, it probably won't be for very long.

Really fast progress is being made since the return of the boiler last Tuesday, also some strange coloured paint going on.

Take a look at the website.

Money, Manpower and an effecient and thought out overhaul plan. Im betting it will be 14-15 months from boiler out to moving under her own power.

Yes the boiler is now in the frames. http://www.prclt.co.uk/New_6233_Overhaul.htm (scroll down to bottom of page) What are they feeding these people? She's now closer to returning than "some other engines we know of" (!)

A turn around from deconstruction to reconstruction (and possibly steaming) in under a year is a truly impressive feat.

Came across this today, it's 6229 making a brief appearance in Brunswick in 1998...a sneak preview of what we can expect from 6233!

I don't know what the chances of the photographer being on the forum, but if he sees this then hope he doesn't mind me showing it away!

Looks like a cab to me.........

These people must have some sort of condition - compulsive loco overhauling syndrome! How quick would Crewe have overhauled a Duchess? Surely they must be matching them over the last few days. Also what a great page that is keeping those of us in our armchairs up to date, whoever takes and posts these photos your efforts are much appreciated!:ranger:

Superb progress with 6233. Are they trying to beat Ian Riley's record for overhauling 45407?

A great achievement indeed! 7 days from the boiler arriving on the back of a lorry to a near complete back head.
So when's the first run? Shall we say a week on Friday? :faint2:

I think you will find that that was less than 3 months and the vast majority of work was done in house, not sent out to contractors.
