It now appears that the train is not being turned at Plymouth but will remain at platform 8 which is now the arrival and departure platform. Only the two engines and their support coaches are being turned.

Also Britannia will be taking the ECS back from Bristol to Southall.

Don't you mean Cromwell (not Britannia) is running with support coach back to Southall? That's what you've shown on UK steam. Anyway remember the train has to get back to Poole so any ECS movement will be from there.

That's good to hear, would've been on it had we known the stock wouldn't have been turned but after last times wasted effort we decided to go sit behind a EE12CSVT instead....

6024 + 70013 on time from Bristol. Running in stunning autumnal light as the train ran through the outskirts of the city. Both locos in immaculate condition as usual. The coaching stock: all maroon apart from the King's support coach. Very smart. <BJ>

Yep. A good effort with 12 on and 15P up front. Compares well with 35005 in 1999 that did it in 74m 34 sec including a TSR with 9 on.

We had a signal check at Taunton and very slow into Bristol. 70 mph into the tunnel at Whiteball.

Makes you realise the advantage of having two up front as Merchant 5 (only) managed 64 over Whteball. That stretch between Bristol and Taunton/Exeter must be one of the few that offers the propect of an even time run provided that water is taken in the right place and you don't go via Weston. Presumably the Devon banks posed few problems?
