    Hello,

I have a few questions which im hoping some of you will be able to help me with...

    On the http://www.festipedia.org.uk/wiki/FR_Locomotives it says....

    1) That Little Giants Cab survived upto at least 1954, did this survive after 1954 and was cut up by the now FR or the original company?

2)Can anyone tell me the history of the bogies under Talisin, M.E., Livingston Thompson, Earl of Merioneth, and DLG. As ive read on the same website
that some of the sets were passed around between locomotives like LT now has James Spooners wheels so where is LT's original set? etc

    3) Also on the same site it says about James Spooners side tanks survived upto at least 1954, did this survive after 1954 and was cut up by the now FR or the original company?

    Cheers

    Dan

I think that in the early years it was just a question of finding money to stay afloat and that if it was 'just a piece of scrap' it was weighed in to help pay the bills to get the railway started. If you look at the early pictures the scene was of total dereliction and not everything that was on site could be restored.

Yes, I'm quite sure this is true, but it is also true that attitudes towards preservation have changed enormously in the years since and the FR has been in the vanguard of that change.

I believe that the FR has fewer power bogies than engines to put them under, but I might be wrong.

    Regards

I know what you mean, but the question doesn't quite make sense in this situation. The FR is still run by the original company, incorporated by Act of Parliament in 1832 - it's just that the company changed hands in June 1954. (In the same way the Talyllyn Railway Company, incorporated by Act of Parliament in 1865, still runs the TR.)

Up to 2005 Orion would have been correct, however 2 new power bogies were completed that year and ever since there have been enough of them, currently two more are under construction which will replace the bogies currently under DLG which are made up of life expired components from various engines. The history is well plotted in articles on the FR society website in conjunction with the appeal to pay for the new bogies and can be found here in the Musical Bogies articles www.ffestiniograilway.org.uk/index....:fairlie-appeal&catid=39:donations&Itemid=110

Thanks for the replies, it wasnt a dig about scrapping parts of engines that i guess like you have said were need to progress the railway. It was just a question as to what happened to them.,....just incase maybe just maybe they might of survived longer or maybe indeed still be around somewhere.

As for the bogies....the plot thickens....I know there is a monument to the voluneers with a fairlie wheel set on it, which engine is this from?

Anyone want to fill in the missing blanks with the name of the engine, whether they are a new set etc

    Taliesin

    M.E.

LT:- Current has James Spooners wheel sets
    Earl

The figure which I have heared suggested for the set of two new bogies was in the reigon of £200k.
Don't know about the memorial wheelset, it'll either be JS, LT, or Tal.

Why should we read the articles for you to provide the information you want??
Tal - New bogie 1999, fitted with piston valve cylinder block Summer 2011
    ME - New bogies 2005
LT - Mismatch of old parts
EofM - New bogie 1988, inc rods and wheels from original ME, new jobs winter 2009
DLG - Mismatch of parts old and new
