Hearing rumblings of the boiler of this King in trouble with leaking stays and firebox seams. Anyone know more?

Heard it was having repairs, to a broken oil pipe?, which needed the removal of a driving wheel set.

you have to feel for those who have worked tirelessly for many years to return 6023 to steam and the engine which should have been the absolute star of the Autumn and is now in need of attention and subject of much speculation and gossip

    Agreed speculation/gossip is not helpful.

Those who have been involved in protracted rebuilds such as this will be used to the idea that a few teething problems are likley if frustrating and irritating.

Good luck to those having to fix them.

Agreed, though its not an official Didcot site on which that article is published. Someone on the inside has obviously had a word with them.

Ouch, messy. I would hope that all can be sorted out amicably but it sounds like it's gone beyond that.

Agreed Didcot is a jewel in the preservation crown and 6063 helps make Didcot complete it would be very sad to see the day when the King leaves the 'cot. I'll take that article with a pinch of salt, for now, until other sources come forward in other publications so we can see the full picture. I highly doubt that us on Nat Pres can get even close to whats going on an idle speculation would do little to help.

Very true, but as far as I make out the King will not leave Didcot as it is GWS owned.

Well thats better than nothing but still there remains the potential threat of important assets... mainly hard working volunteers becoming cheesed off leaving which isn't good. And internet speculation and pot stiring, not that anyone here has done any, would do it no good.

How very sad and unnecessary. Ask yourself what sort of person would want to publish such a biased and vindictive character assassination. And ask yourself what sort of responsible website (rail.co.uk) would publish it. Railway preservation has no use for this sort of thing.

6023 and GWS would have helped themselves if they had released their take on the story themselves instead of waiting for it to come out like this. I agree that "Railway preservation has no use for this sort of thing", but the past has shown that it's impossible to keep secrets in a situation like this, and if you try then gossip and rumours get spread and you lose control.

What a blow for all those involved with 6023. Hope the problems can be resolved.

Perhaps if the GWS had made a statement after the meeting then things may not have got out of hand? Typical response to problems, backsides in the air, heads in the sand.

Oh heck. What is it with king class locos? Come on people, for the second time in as many years, put the engine first, self interests last.
