There is a second LMS maroon locomotive now in Tyseley. 5593 has been repainted. No thread on this locomotive that I'm aware of so here is a start.

That black livery of 5552 was quite 'different', for sure!

I wonder how much Tyseley would want to paint the smokebox hinges silver again and recreate the loco's glory days of the 80s?

They were not painted silver - they were actually polished steel. Unlike the mobile re-painiting fraternity we do not use silver paint to replicate polished steel as it actually looks crap (pardon me for that one). Unfortunately we had a spate of repainters doing various dodgy paint jobs on it whilst it was under the care of the GCR in the 80's. The naffest was the 'Silver Jubilee' repaint which was really the 'Aluminium Paint Jubilee', and the worst was the miserable attempt at reproducing BR green when the loco ended up being painted in totally the wrong green. We were given a solemn undertaking that the loco would be returned to an 'exhibition finish' in LMS red after the events on the GCR, but unfortunately that promise was not upheld once the photgraphic clique had had their fun and gone off to repaint something else, and we have only just managed to get around to finding the time and money to sort it out to a reasonably presentable standard, which at least makes the thing decent until we can get around to raising the funds to put it back in going order.

And of course the bonus is that it is once more the right colour for a 5XP!

    Regards
    Bob

No offence intended Bob, the memory's a little hazy after that length of time! Any chance of seeing it this way again in the fullness of time? :)

No offence taken RH No6. There is every chance of seeing it, but the problem is one of time, or rather lack of it. We have a couple of our volunteers who have been steadily working at removing the evidence of neglect form the loco that accumulated whilst out on loan to various organisations in years gone by. We have a number of things to complete, in particular there is still a bit of lining to put along the loco platform and the tender frames on one side, and the fornt numberplate needs casting in iron. The front number plate is currently actually the pattern which Dave Ruston has had to make, as the"re-painters" who painted it in Woolworth's number 27 green at the GCR all those years ago have never returned the original 5593 plate which they took off to change it to 45593. Then folks wonder why we are against casual repainting of loco's!

Quite understandable, it's nice to see it's getting a quality job again after all these years!

Thank you bob for once again putting the Tysley side of the story. We can all be greatful that you guys aren't in favour of casual repainting, because when you do a paint job it is done properly. Once you've finished doing the double chimney castles in that bastardised GW green livery, can we have a real single chinmey castle in fully lined Great Western Green please, would make a nice match to Rood Ashton. Ogmore Castle maybe?

Paul, thanks for this, it is very kind of you. We have had a few donations in over the last year or so, and we shall probably launch a fund proper once 7029 is a lot more advaced. In the meantime your donation will probably go towards the new number plate for the smokebox door.

    regards
    Bob
