    Took myself off to the Werratal Plandampf again. Not so much sun as last year but a good show all the same.Good to see at least two more NatPres members out there.
    1. The even got off to a cracking start with a pair of Class 44 2-10-0s on 1800t of timber. Seen here leaving Oberohn for Eisenach.

    2. The sun had gone by lunchtime. The 44s attacking the climb out of Eisenach with mineral empties for Immelborn.

    3. The crew of 44 2546 await instructions while shunting empties at Immelborn at the end of the first day.

    4. Day two saw almost unbroken sun. Class 41 2-8-2 no. 41 1144 climbs away from Oberohn with some 4w hoppers bound for Eisenach.

    5. 41 2546 heads south from Wasungen with some mineral empties for Meiningen.

    6. 41 1144 crosses the Werrabrücke at Wasungen with an Eisenach - Meiningen passenger working.

    Thanks for posting those photos.

    I've not seen the bit of metal sticking out over the driver's window on the 44 before - it must be more or less at the limit of the loading gauge.

    Yes I know it should read "trifft" and not "tritt" but I can't find how to edit the title of the thread so the misspell will have to stay for the time being.

    Thanks for editing the title.
    It was a good event. Last year's was arguably better as all three days were blessed with almost unbroken sunshine but if you discount the weather, this year's trump card was double headed 44s - a sight and sound not easily forgotten.

    The 2010 event had good light and more trains but it was too warm for decent clag. For me nothing has ever been as good as the pair of 44s on the first timber train this year when everything came together for once. Also last year I didn't like the 95 tank paired up with the tender engines. IMHO it should have been used as a banker. For noise you never beat the three 52s!

    Err, re noise and three 52s.

    I think the spectacle of two 2-10-0 oil fired 43s heading South from Emden Docks in the first half of the 1970s took some beating! There was a spot South of Lathen by a mini summit that many here will remember. I'll try and dig out my photo from there. Or was it further South from Lathen? It was just after a main road crossing, you left the main road there and went down the other side of the line, parked and then crossed the tracks to walk back up to the photo spot on the top of a small embankment.

    Anyway, some lovely photos posted here from the recent event. Many thanks. Pity I just can't face up to a trip back to Germany still.

    The best year for me was 2008 (the snow year) with 03 1010, the three 52.8s and a cameo appearance by the 41. Although there wasn't much sun on Thursday and Friday the Saturday will always be remembered for near wall to wall sunshine and trains everywhere.

    Looking back at the above you can see why it becomes adictive. The autumn colours are fantastic.

    All I can offer is visual evidence of the noise that can be imagined from two German 2-10-0s working flat out on the front of a 4,000 tonne ore train.

    The earth really did move as they passed!

    A very quick scan from a 35 year old print. I'll improve it when I get to that point with my web site, and I do have a couple of colour slides taken at the same time.

    Fantastic that two similar, (but not the same), German 2-10-0s can still be photted at the head of a heavy goods train more than 35 years later.

    Nice selection. IIRC the clag was less impressive in 2010 on the later afternoon trains. Just wondering what Henry and his team will come up with for 2012. A few days in Saxony on the narrow gauge followed by a good Plandampf seems just the ticket for an autumn vacation.

    Lovely shot. There needs to be a few more oil fired engines in Germany at the moment! Line must have been fairly flat ? Or does it just demonstrates why the pair made the line to Fortha look flat with a mere 2KT!
