Really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing it.

The sensitivity of those video mics never ceases to amaze me.

True Stuart, don't know what type Phil uses, but I guess you need to pay over £100 to get anything decent, and a stunning shot can be ruined by poor sound.

    I agree, very impressive.

I was planning to use that location but when I arrived in the area it was very overcast and misty so I went elsewhere:doh:

Very nice - I like the lines - all those curves from the train, rails, canal towpath and the canal itself make it interesting to look at.

Last two shots of this vid capture the pair passing Wakey K.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70M_kOwLB-k

Stephen's vid is great. A lot better than those people who follow each other and stand in a gallery of 50! The ones who stand alone and get "the exclusive" always win.

Just proves how some people have about as much geographical knowlege/paitence as a blind pig,no doubt there were people crawling on each others backs at Peak Forest all for the same shot. What is the point!? Desperation/obsessiveness maybe even idiocy.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Went out to see some steam today and while out shot some video. Can't pretend it's better than anyone else's but for what it's worth it's at:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvjExMACR0k

Although it may sound similar to two locations in Phil Smith's video the shots are from completely different spots. Sound was fabulous and I could have added many more minutes of sound only before and after the locos had passed.

Finally home after a very long day. 5 am start to get to Lancaster in time on the train. Enjoyable, though coach c, half the train was heated, part I was in wasn't. I appreciate it's not RTC fault, but spending £109 to sit in my coat all day is a bit off. Other than that, good day ran pretty much too time. Covered some rare track through Wigan to Bolton.

I can see all sides of the argument, though from my personal point of view I am grateful to all who post, as it gives me the opportunity to see today's tour from the perspective of linesiders, be it good or average.

Thanks to RTC, WCRC, Rileys engines and crew and also to all the volunteers on today's train.

What a great day and route. Plenty of opportunity for the 5's to show us what they can do and despite the low cloud in the hills, the scenery was stunning with the sections into and out of Buxton really special. Also it's worth noting how smartly everyone at Buxton managed the reception siding shunt and loco top/tail switching. Maybe the fact that there was a freight waiting to do the same thing kept everyone on their toes! That said, having reached Sheffield/Brightside by 4 pm it was a slow trek back westwards due to a combination of pathing and (necessary) water stops.

My part of the train was warm (unlike elsewhere it would appear) and, more to the point it was lit after sunset. If I had been in the standard coach in darkness perhaps my view of the journey back would have been even less positive. I personally feel it is totally unacceptable for West Coast to turn out rolling stock not fit for purpose. You can't do that with the motive power. Why should it be any different with the rolling stock? There really is no excuse and RTC should give them a bad time over this...and it's not the first time.
