Crofton - Canalside Locations Out Of Action For The Moment

A warning to anyone intending to lineside at Crofton in the near future.

I went out on Sunday to shoot the Class 37 hauled Spitfire Railtours return tour from Exeter to Preston. The canal to the west of the pumping station is drained for maintenance (canal gates being replaced on the Crofton flight) and the access points to the towpath by the canal overbridge are securely fenced off. I can't confirm if the section to the east of Crofton is drained as well, but I assume it is as lock 60 by the pumping station is involved according to this

Projected re-opening is 16th December

Is much steam due to pass that way in that period ?, hopefully in the search for alternative locations someone will unearth a gem.

 

No more steam is booked along this route this year
