Nice one Austin, I was thinking of there if there had been no sun, but up on the side of the valley to the left in your shot.

    The Princess, Glasgow-bound 12 November 2011

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of her Record Run from London to Glasgow on 16-17 November 1936, the owners of Stanier Pacific No 6201 Princess Elizabeth joined with Vintage Trains to rerun the northern legs of the journey from Crewe to Glasgow and return, on the weekend of 12 - 13 November 2011.

So it was that the Princess, her crimson lake livery resplendent in the morning sun, appeared at Crewe today, complete with an exact replica of the special '703' headboard worn on the original run. She picked up her load of 9 coaches and a Class 47 diesel, and set off confidently northward.

Great coverage Austin, the climb of Shap looked and sounded steady, the exhaust barely altered in tempo all the way.

Thanks Ralph, yes that would be a good spot and would allow more of the viaduct to be included in the shot

Wow! What a superb picture! Lighting, composition, smoke, clouds, sky just perfect. I wish I could have been there to see it, or better still, on the train.

Superb on Shap. Both the filiming and the action. Looks like 9 cars and a non working machine powered by fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil gave a worthwhile load.

Many thanks for sharing that with us.

Fingers crosssed the rest of that trip runs OK for all concerned.

What if the diesel on the back is also preserved?
You do realise preservation isn't just about boiling water and burning coal, right?
    Just a thought!

Absolutely - and I'll say it again. If someone's interest is in steam preservation then why should they have to put up with diesel traction in a consist if that is not their choice. There are tours for diesel cranks - who are as hard line against kettles as some here are hardline against tin boxes. I don't patronise those tours at all because they just don't interest me.

Its not a crime to have a choice and to exercise it, and if your choice is to be happy with a diesel in tow -then fine - but don't don't expect to find me on the client list very often. I prefer my experiences untainted.
