What style of lamp would be appropriate for a headlamp on my 1909 North Eastern Railway Snowplough?

Does anyone know a supplier of replica versions of these lamps?

I suspect that the fitting onto the lamp bracket is also unusual in that it would be at 90 degrees to the normal.
In the attached photo I have fitted the adapter brackets for the lamps and as can be seen these indicate that a side fitting lamp would be needed.
By coincidence the lamps on 901 behind are side fitting. Unfortunately they are secured on to the bracket.

The man for repro lamps is John Beesley - www.footplateequipment.co.uk - he did the lamps for Tornado and the winged lamps on Hamilton at the NRM.

I am a tad confused by your description regarding the adapters etc. Which way are the lamp brackets facing on your plough? Why have you fitted adapters?

It's not very clear in the picture, but do the lamp brackets hinge back into the surface of the plough when ploughing?

Yes the brackets fold down flush into the slope.
The black objects are the adapters. But they are at 90 degrees to the folding brackets.
The lamps on 901 behind are the same way round as the adapter.

I'd have thought that they took standard brake van side lamps. These had the lamp brackets at 90 degrees to normal head and tail lamps. These showed a white aspect in one direction and a red in the other and were painted black. Although heritage railways never seem to use them, there should be plenty of examples around.

I have never seen a demonstration freight run without them when visiting various heritage railways. Incidentally, I'm inclined to agree that it is that sort that would have originally been on the plough.

The amount of work that has been done by Ploughman on that snow plough he should know what he is talking about. Its a NER plough.

No need... That's the problem with the 'net, despite smilies you can sometimes be misunderstood, especially when you've got a mind as warped as mine! :rolleyes1:
