Even though 925 isn't going Main Line there is the move from Eastleigh to the MHR to consider. Perhaps she might be hauled by another steam loco?

Unlikily though, unless there happens to be a loco passing near to Eastleigh on a engine and coach positioning move to the MHR but as its not till next year, and it might be near to the gala, who knows?? it depends on what happens to be stabled at swanage after an run and could be a guest loco at a gala, , now thinking of the possibilities i would love to see the following ,30120 gets loaned to swanage ,then 30055 and 30120 get brought down by 70000 , stop at eastleigh, pick up 925 run down the main to woking run round and a tender first run to Alton or go via fareham and Guildford

I think the cost of just doing the paperwork for an unregistered steam loco would far outweigh the cost of simply moving it by road.

I was led to believe once 925 Cheltenham is completed at Eastleigh she will be moved to York and be put on display with 850 Lord Nelson for a short period of time and then both loco will move to the MHR. I would think both locos would be moved by road.

    I don't.
When 35005 went to Eastleigh by rail it cost half that of two lorrys.
Plus 925 is too big to go over the bridge, so she comes out of the works by rail. After that....well we haven't decided yet, too busy with putting her together! She won't be mainline registered, but she might be moved on the mainline.

Hi chris, As i have said previously it is very unlikily she will get a tow from another steamer, so going by what you said, it might well work out cheeper to send her by rail assuming that she is only heading down to alton and not to york, longer distances are cheeper and safer for the loco to go by road , a hot box on an engine in light steam on the main line would not go down well , what lubrication does she have , hydrostat or mechcanical ? is there any plans to test her around the works first to ensure she is fit to run before she gets towed anywhere unless its just to an loading point with her first steaming being at either york or at MHR

How did 850 and 828 leave Eastleigh?

Did they both leave by rail because they both had main line tickets.

Most stuff gets shunted to the DBS yard and transfered to a low loader there. I can't remember 850 it might have arrived by rail as it had a ticket then, but 828 came by road. IF 925 comes by road it will first have to make a short rail journey. I hope it comes by rail, but perhaps best done at night, slowly, after normal traffic has ceased. CP was starting to get in the way by the time it went through Petersfield.

828 left Eastleigh by rail, as it was a main line loco. At the end of its main line stint it went to Swanage (by low loader from Winfrith in Dorset after the 1998 Bournemouth open day), and then on to the MHR by low loader after withdrawal.
