Forgive my ignorance (i can't tell the difference) there is a Class 44 (or 45) just outside Derby Station near RVEL / Rampart. I'm just intrigued as to what it is, why it is there, does it move under its own power and is it OK to run on NR track?

If it has headcode boxes then it is a 45 ... or 46, if it has disks it is a 44. I believe this one is 45112. It did run on the national network in preservation but I understand is not in working order now.

I thought it was 45118 which was sent to RVEL some time ago for repairs from the Northampton & Lamport following agreement of insurance claim.

I wondered when this would crop up as the loco when I last went by is devoid of numbers! A trainspotter's nightmare!

I assumed it was 45112 not knowing about 45118. It's in good condition so the ex-works status could point to the latter.
