This year's National Railway Heritage Awards ceremony took place at Merchant Taylors Hall, Threadneedle Street, in the heart of the City of London, on Wednesday 7 December.
The Swanage Railway had submitted its new Corfe Castle signal box for consideration by the Signalling Award judges.
Three of the S&T team involved in construction/fitting out work travelled up to London to accept the 2011 NRHA Signalling Award from the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton.
Mike Whitwam accepted the award and commented
"This is the fourth NRHA award we have received, for our signal boxes, and comments were made during the presentation about the excellent reputation the Swanage Railway had built up for the quality of its signalling. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the construction and installation of S&T equipment and ancillary works."
It is intended to have an official ceremony in the Spring to unveil the plaque and formally 'open' the box.

The signalling at Corfe Castle is a treat and I think the station is a delight to see. One thing, though, there is an aerial cable linking the platforms, is that going to be re-routed at any time in the future?

    Regards

Believe it is the cable linking phones in the signal box and station buildings.
Don't know if the S&T Dept. have any plans to move it though.

Will the behind the scenes weekend (Railway at Work) on 24/25 March give access to the signalboxes for visitors?

I would anticipate something will be arranged; there is a meeting of the railways Membership and Volunteers group in early January to discuss some of the plans for the weekend.
