Full details of the West Somerset Railway Winter Steam Festival on 28 & 29 December are now available online at WSR :: West Somerset Railway :: The Minehead Branch This includes the working timetable with loco allocations. Six engines are expected to be in service, with the inaugural workings of 6960 Raveningham Hall after overhaul. The event also features "driver for a fiver" on Class 14 Diesel Hydraulic D9526 at Minehead.

The WTT now even shows which way the locos face; very sporting.

  3. WSR Plc say "5553 has had to be withdrawn from service with immediate effect and
unfortunately will not be able to feature in the 2011 WSR Winter Steam
Festival. The withdrawal is due to a fracture of the ejector exhaust
pipe somewhere between the boiler back head and the front tube plate, at
a location yet to be established. The locomotive was due to be withdrawn
from service in Spring 2012 for overhaul, because of this a repair at
this stage may not be economic but discussions with the owner Waterman
    Railways are taking place."

Enjoyable gala visit! Connecting bus to/from Taunton in addition to the 28. Thanks WSR

6990 3850 9351 7828 + 88 working the hourly gala service to-day. Trains looked well supported/buffets open. Lots of enthusiasts--some talking about 6990 + where it has worked + whether they saw it working in London...!!!

Again, many many thanks to the volunteers + management of the WSR.

Missed you, Ray - I was there today, courtesy of on-line bargain fares with FGW from Truro!

It was a good day out. Although the good old S&D 2-8-0 remains my favourite, I have to admit that seeing Raveningham Hall in action was my main motive for coming. I was not disappointed. I liked the way that turntable was used for four of the incoming trains at Minehead. It was good to see the trains that I went on were all very busy.
