Changing back to anolgue

    I have a Bachman J39 with fitted decoder in the tender (shop done). Is it easy to revert back from this form to analogue running? Any diagrams available ?

    You should be able to buy a blanking plate from your local model shop, remove the digital and insert the dummy.

    You should check if it's 9 or 21 pin that is fitted.

    If you wanted to make it permanent... Remove the wiring altogether, if it's a split chassis model. Make sure the can motor contacts touches both sides of the plates, or ensure wiring runs to the contacts on the motor from the pick ups by the wheels directly.

    It should run on analogue even with the decoder fitted.

    If I remember correctly the J39 is not DCC ready, therefore the shop will have had to isolate both halves of the split chassis block in order to covert to DCC operation. Your best bet is to change the CV setting which specifies DCC only, that way you should be able to run it using an analogue controller, juest be aware that you will have a bit of lag on starting off.

    Thanks for the info. Have just tried the loco on DC but nothing. Not took it apart yet, but I have a feeling it will be one of the split chassis locos.
    It used to run under code number 4 when I was using DCC. I will set a piece of track up with connections to the Lenz Compact and see what info I can get. Not sure if its possible to give it the address of zero...then in theory it should run on analogue...or maybe not!!!

    If its a conversion done in the tender, then just remove the DCC and reconnect the wires bypassing the Dcc chip ?

    Thanks once again for all the info regards the J 39.
    Started to dismantle the chassis from the body, fiddling with the minute screws...Then thought about the last piece of advice on this page.
    I disconnected the decoder (set in the tender) from the wires protruding from the inside of the cab. Reconected the originals...but nothing. I then did a different connection, and hey presto, away she went in full glorious analogue mode.
