am i the only person who is not aware of what the EOR actually is?

I must admit I watched the whole of the last series and find this one equally interesting, a bit like the fancinating Coast series, you can keep going for ever and still uncover wonderful stories, such is the richness of the United Kingdom. I didn't like Michael as a front man, but I am slowly warming to his less than patronising approach, with some contritional statements to his previous life. If this gets more 'normals' interested in railways in the UK, more power to their elbow! I like the cuts to old footage, some real gems, but I was suprised to see a GW Saint (2978 I think) being shown on a program on East Anglia. My wife said it was because they were discussing the migration of Cornish and Scottish farmers to the area, if so where was the shot of an NBR 'Glen'!! Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Did I spot some PW work going on with GW broad gauge track?
If so that was some ancient film archive they've researched!

I understand from the production company that the show was watched by 2.05 million people, making it the second highest show for BBC2 that day...
I think I spotted Swanage on the forthcoming week's episodes, so will be looking forward to seeing that.... )

 

I find Michael Portillo a quite agreeable presenter, articulate and seemingly genuinely interested in the subject matter. The only things that grind with me are his dress sense (that pink jacket wouldn't have looked out of place on Elton John) and the fact that everywhere he goes he's clutching that copy of Bradshaw's like some religious icon; god knows what state it ended up in!

I must confess that I also get annoyed by the fact that the last five minutes of one programme are the same as the first five minutes of the next; Trailing the basic content is all very well but one has to question, in the i-player era, whether it isn't just unnecessary padding?

Overall an entertaining and informative series, though.

 

Would I be right in saying at 6 minutes into the Fenchurch - Embankment episode is Aviemore. The loco is "Clan Campbell" from HR's Clan class.
