Will be heading up to the K&WVR on the Saturday for this event.

Just one question though, will there be an express train with 49395 and 58926 on the Saturday??

Glad to hear you're attending our event Jeff. Having recently qualified as a fireman, I'm rostered as one of the firemen on the Saturday. Not sure which loco yet though - the allocation of crews to locos tends to be done a couple of weeks before the event.

I hope to be still around for the time that the Patriot comes up the bank out of Keighley. I'll probably need to camp out a day in advance for a photo spot!

Will do. Re your question, as I understand the timetable has not been written yet, apart from the express specifically announced for Friday. Kieran is spearheading the publicity for this gala and will no doubt provide further updates when available.
    Kind regards,

    Julian

Does anyone know if you need to purchase a day rover to go on these tours?

Re: KWVR WINTER STEAM GALA - FEBRUARY 10th, 11th & 12th 2012 -RETURN OF THE 'COAL TAN

In the above quote ref the guided tours,I don't want to give the impression that I'm trying to do things on the cheap. This will be the first visited to the KWVR for my wife and I and want to see everything possible.

We will travel up from South West Wales on Thursday morning and visit Oxenhope and the museum. Friday will travel on the railway and spend all day visiting the stations taking videos and photos. Saturday will be seeing and anything we missed on the 2 previous days before driving back in the afternoon.

As an ex Locospotter from the 1950's I hope to get to see all the mainline locos on the KWVR regardless of their condition and where they are stored.

Looking at the KWVR website and the Loco stock list I have only seen No.41241 so I'm really looking forward to the gala to make a few "cops" (is this a west midland locospotters term ? )

I would be greatful if any members who are familiar with the railway can tell me if any of the Locos are "tucked" away in some obscure place but still visible to see without breaking any rules. Or, if there are Locos listed but are off site.

    Thank you

    Hi 6959.

The Guided Tours are an "add on" to the Event with the help of our tour guided. You don't need a Day Rover to go on them, all we ask is a donation with the money going towards our bridge appeal.

Most locos are either at Haworth or Oxenhope. The ones at Haworth are mainly under restoration, ones at Oxenhope in long term store.
You shouldnt have any problem seeing them all.

I notice that some lineside vegetation clearance has been done (at last!). It would be great if the team responsible could do some more prior to the gala. I was thinking especially of the area approaching Damens from Ingrow Tunnel where the line borders the river and also at Damens Loop where the views from the train of the lake etc are blocked out. There used to be great photos to be had off the main road without trespassing on the lineside at Damens Loop, this is now getting blocked.

If you buy a members's photo permit it isn't trespassing.

    Thank you for the info.

Will try to fit in a ride over the moor on the vintage bus as well. Really looking forward to this Gala.

I'm sure they would have done it sooner and more extensively if they realised the inconvenience they were causing you. As with other volunteer staffed railways they have a ready supply of extra folk just sat around waiting for such requests, so I'm sure they'll be straight on to it.

Re: KWVR WINTER STEAM GALA - FEBRUARY 10th, 11th & 12th 2012 -RETURN OF THE 'COAL TAN

    Sarcasm....

It was merely a suggestion based on the fact that winter is the time such work is normally and most easily done. I was also thinking that newly opened up views would be a marketing ploy, as used by the Bodmin & Wenford Railway who have opened up new views of the countryside recently. Isn't it the ride and scenery that many passengers come for? Furthermore if you are operating a sinuous steeply graded line its common sense that you cut back vegetation to aid visibility and adhesion.

There was absolutely no need to reply in the manner you did.
