They should of used the same group of people that had done the leaflet for SSS1/2, instead of unjustifiably accusing them of not caring for 6880.

Interesting first post, seems to be a lot of smoke around SS&SIII, so I'm guessing there's a fire raging down below. Oh, and welcome to the forum b-t-w.

Well having worked the last 2 galas i can only say this looks like a real risk. We had a brilliant team of enthusiastic volunteers who worked seamlessly to make those galas in to the brilliant events they were. The fact is with SSS2 we only just scraped profit with a lovely week of weather and a hell of a lot of work. If it had rained for the first weekend we would have never caught up on the money we needed to make a profit. It seems to me the outlay and risk is too high this time and this lesson should have been learnt after last time. Reading this thread has me worried to be honest as there are more negatives than positives. The old gala team while not perfect did a hell of a job on promotion and did put the hours in liasoning on Nat Pres and running round the country with leaflets. There were several disagreements during the gala which have run and run and generally eroded the moral of a lot of volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort. Mistakes were made but it was bound to happen on such a huge event and working with a volunteer team. All in all the public never saw any difficulties because we dealt with them professionally and quietly. Its a shame all the old team wont be back this time and i feel the event will be worse for that, however i will be offering my services to help during the gala as i believe in the project. I just hope it pulls a profit.

And while im at it, where is a representative from the Gala commitee to answer all these questions/ concerns the potential customers are asking about. It just seems unprofessional that its being dealt with by the old Gala team who are not involved this time round. Just my personal opinion but it just seems bizzare as huge numbers of people read this forum, most of them dont post anything but use it to gain information. So if anyone involved is reading this it might be a good plan to monitor this thread and deal with stuff as it comes up, makes everyones life a bit easier then and stops false information being banded around.

I suspect it comes down to a split along the lines of now is not a good time to hold such an event and going ahead was for most of the original group to much of a risk to the project, reading between the lines SS2 only just made profit and fell short of expectation, as such this years even't is a major risk. As such those who had been and done it did not wish to take the risk, or be part of what could set back the project. Could be wrong, but thats the vibes I have got of this threed over the last 6 months or so.

Or maybe someone is trying to out do previous events and claim the bragging rights of running a bigger gala?

It's rather sad that there's a bit of acrimony surrounding this event, but it is of a similar ilk to that surrounding WSR events of late. No matter what happens, and putting aside my extreme dislike of things with copper-capped Brasso-ridden chimneys and flowerpots, three of us are heading north on the 21st for a day out in the Dee Valley, with accommodation already booked. It may not balance the books on its own, but every little helps, and any project like this is worth supporting. May even try to do it on the Sunday as well if I can pursuade my father to stick around... However, is there a printable booking form, as my grandfather is in charge of booking the tickets and doesn't have access to internet?

Its a bit sad really as either way the project loses..

SSS3 is a massive success... the old team take their ball away, project loses time.
SSS3 is a massive flop... the new team take their ball away, project loses time and money.

I've heard a rumour going around that a F&WHR loco will be at Carrog aswell as TR's 'Dolgoch.' Can anyone shed any light on this?

I'm sure if there if there is truth in any rumour then it will appear on the 6880 website in due course. I've heard they are after another loco to join Dolgoch, but only in Heritage Railway mag. So how believe able is that!!!
