Ah ... Its all in one place then ;) "LEW" , the business plan and the funding all being gaurded by some "Unicorns" at the bottom of your garden !! not much more one can say about that.

And hey readers thats from the official guiding light............ Going ahead with strong plans......:noidea:

=-O :-( As for LEW I'm sure, fortunately its been cut up long ago.

Here is a picture of the Queen driving Lew (cunningly disguised by painting it blue (Lew, not the Queen)) at a secret location, yesterday.

Andy, this thread is entitled "Looking for Lew" - it is not not about L&BR Trust plans and funding strategy. Please try to keep on topic. :) and I'm posting here in a private capacity - I do not represent anybody else :D

The thread is about LEW, otherwise the thread would have been titled " Looking for money" a good many people who have logged on and read this thread, have chipped in their bit, some have added background information of what we know, this has no doubt enlightened a lot of readers who did not know much or any of it.

Strangely... Lew, was big heavy and mainly made of steel, that is a reality even if you think of it as "Airfix".

If anyone was looking then, its a big place to look, we don't actually have much idea where it was. There are readers all over the world, and this forum is probably a very likely vehicle to identify its where abouts should it still exist.

The thread needs to contain reality for those readers to understand what if I found LEW.

" Looking for LEW".. Requires a strategie, well at least a plan somewhere in the background !! the funding or at least a vague idea of what to do if you found it , just in case you find LEW.

I only demonstrated to the readers, no one seems to have any of this in place.

All that is apparent is imagination and a wish list.

Sorry I am used to dealing with pieces of metal , such as this, they are awkward and expensive as soon as you look at them.

Anyone finding LEW should realise the daunting task of what to do with it and how it might affect them. Colin repatriated several locos from around the world, as have other people, it takes a lot of time negotiation and money as well as concern, the number of people with sufficient skill and understanding taking responsibility to do this is diminishing.

    Thanks

    Regards TE

I'm sorry, that's just a lot of random words. What is your point?

Let's keep this on Lew please, no need for personal disputes or to wander off topic.

    To help the thread...

Wasnt there a Japanese tea garden that had a full size replica L & B locomotive built ?
I don't suppose in keeping with naming tradition, with exe, lyd and yeo.... Was it named "Yen" by any chance ? :)

I once went and looked for Lew in Brazil, by which I mean that I investigated one possible location down on the coast near Sao Paulo whilst on my way to Argentina. Unfortunately it became clear that this particular 60cm gauge agricultural railway system had only used small diesels.

However, my experiences over many years of gathering information about railways in Patagonia have taught me that there are a huge number of photographs out there that are only slowly appearing in public. Many small towns in South America now have small museums, or informal historical groups, that are now scanning privately held photos, and in some cases publishing them on the web.

What is needed is for a Portuguese-speaking enthusiast with a passion for small industrial railways to spend a few years of his spare time trawling through such Brazilian historical web pages and corresponding with the appropriate groups whenever there appears to be a possibility of finding any clues. Whether such a person with the necessary motivation actually exists is another matter.

Surely, Wayne Johns at Snailbeach has found all the photos and evidence for the location of 'Lew'? At least he has posted on this site to that effect a year or so ago!

I doubt it as they would have to prove that what they say is true in court.

Can those of us who are clueless ask what you're all going on about with "Snailbeach" please?

It's otherwise a very interesting thread, and as much I'm sure Andy the Engineer is right financially, I'm sure if someone found Lew, there would be lots of people who may not otherwise donate to the L&B who'd make a donation - in other words, it may abstract funding rather less than supposed.

It's an in-joke that refers to a family of fantasists who posted on here for a while a few years ago. When questioned on any of their claims, they went quite crazy, contacting employers and threatening court action against individuals and organisations. Amusing with hindsight but upsetting at the time. This discussion group removed all related threads and banned further mention.

Ahh yes - I remember the Snailbeach chronicles. How silly. Pictures of locos prepared on a proprietary CAD system, dreams, threats and handbags at dawn....

Well, no, because that's a pure speculation not pretending to be anything else...

I can't quite see what TE is worried about. If anyone did find Lew (utterly unlikely as I believe that to be) then money to recover and rebuild it would be one of the easier fundraising tasks, I'd have thought. I doubt much of it would be usable but enough would be to claim descent from the original. After all, in 50 years time very few working narrow guage engines will have much of the original left. That's what normally happens for steam locos in service for many years. If you want 'original' you have to keep it in a museum.

when parts of locos are regulalrly stolen for scrap in THIS country, I'd say it would be very unlikely that theres anything left of LEW..nice dream though
