Couple of good pics on Didcot RC website showing new cylinder and valve liners being fitted. Plenty of liquid nitrogen in evidence..

Don't want to stir up a hornet's nest, but aren't these liners being fitted by the same company that fitted Tornado's? If so will WCRC operate her? DBS won't as I don't think it is having air brakes fitted.

The issue was not about who fitted what.

I know this is raking up a very old thread, but I found some very interesting info from the excellent BR Database site. This has recently been updated to give a hell of a lot of info on the Castles including all the tenders carried by each class member. It does seem that 4079 did have a tender change the day before the 9th of May run.

BRDatabase - the Complete British Railways Locomotive Database 1948-1997

It did receive tender 2913 off castle 7023 but there is more to it.

    Tender 2913 history.

BRDatabase - the Complete British Railways Locomotive Database 1948-1997

What actually happened it seems is that 7023's tender (2913) was fitted to 4079, the tender off withdrawn castle 5070 stored at 81A was fitted to 7023 & 4079's knackered tender was attached to 5070 & sent for scrap with that loco.
Bit of a long winded process I know, Don't know why 5070's tender could not be fitted straight on to 4079.

Without knowing the detail of the tender from 5070, could it have been a Hawksworth flush-sided type and they wanted a 'classic' Collett tender for 4079?

    5070 had a Collett tender.
