No - sadly. The collection of 400 odd L&B pictures he put on his website (briefly) were part of the NRM's collection. The Brazil photos do not exist, sorry to have confused.

Thanks! I thought that was what you meant, but sometimes, you just have to check! :)

I thought that at least one of the ex-Davington Light Railway MWs (1916/1916) was supposed to still be in existence in Brazil? (recurring theme!! :) )

Wasn't there a photograph of Lew in Brazil published in Steam Railway years ago?

Why doesn't some entrepreneurial type put an advert in the Brazilian national newspaper asking for info on the whereabouts of 'Lew', with a monetary reward for the finder ?
Many years ago the 'Daily Sport' found a London bus on the moon , so nothing is impossible.

Actually, I do believe that has been tried; Some years ago, through the L&B, I was contacted by a former British Consul in Brazil, who was keen to help, although nothing came of his search.

As for the bus on the moon, I think there may be a little more to that story than at first appears!

"Of the two MW ex-Imbituba Docks now at Tubarão, the preserved one is conformed as MW 1915/1916, with the plates of 1916/1916"
"Mabbott reports (in his MW Workslist): no. 1915/Oct 1917/0-6-0ST (No 2) and no. 1916/Nov 1917/0-6-0ST (no. 3), both to Davington Light Railway, then to Imbituba."

These two quotes are from International Steam Pages and the locos are metre gauge so fell outside my original brief. Not that I'm disinterested in the "larger" narrow gauges but they were not within the "Lew" search theme that I was pursuing at the time.
There's a lot of interesting items to be viewed in Brazil! (Some of them not sporting bikinis - in the best possible sense) I wish I had the wherewithal to check some of them out but the distances between some of the exhibits are lengthy to say the least.

We were quite looking forward to a "runpast" or two on Copacabana beach when we were out there, but the day we visited it was more remeniscent of a damp day in Rhyl rather than Rio!

What is out there of greater railway interest of course is the remnants of the former Perus-Pirapora cement railway, 600mm gauge and home to at least 2 of Lyn's slightly larger 2-6-2 Baldwin sisters. Had the L&B survived longer, could something similar have eventually found its way to Devon one wonders?

We didn't visit the line but I believe from reports on Rob Dickinson's International steam site that the preservation group now based at the line put a second loco back into service last year and have moved a number of the locos off-site to a more secure location for restoration.

If we can't find Lew, I don't suppose they could spare one of those...??

    Chris

Actually, if you want the real rio, head over the water to Niteroi, you get a decent amount of beach to yourself, a decent amount of local attraction, less muggings and everything is much cheaper..
Oh and the view is of Rio of course !!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niterói

If your in Rio of course... Don't ignore the local tram.. The Santa Teresa tram is a fantastic ride, entrance is close to the rio main cathedral, it goes up into a very old colonial residential part of the city, fantastic architecture.

And if you feel like eating I highly recommend Portcao restaurant, it's a churrascaria (Brazilian BBQ where meat is sliced at your table)

    Anyway enough tourist advice !

I guess we just need to continue searching and something may turn up. 'Allegedly' the run pasts on the beach are quite something to watch.
