So presumably 60010 will go straight into its cosmetic restoration when it arrives ready for possible photoshoots.

I kind of hope that 60010 gets converted back to LNER Coronation condition with Garter Blue paint, Stainless Steel lettering and numkberingChrome trim (In full which I don't think it is on 60019), Canadian Coat of Arms below cabside numbers, Bell (if a suitable can be found), Whistle (again if a suitable one can be found)Given the condition of 60008 I'd say not much needs to be done as shes been very well looked after (which sadly can't be said for 60010). Trouble is getting another set of side valances made and also that it would be a lot of work on an engine that's destined to spend its life on display so I suspect it'll keep its BR Brunswick Green with late crest.

I take it 60008 won't need much or any cosmetic restoration as she's been pretty well looked after.

There might be some work done - I seem to recall the motion has been painted a metallic colour (was it silver?).

Yeah I think it is a metallaic colour and maybe silver but isn't the paint still as applied before shipping and its still in excellent condition.

I think it was repainted in the early 1990s - I recall a photo in an old issue of Steam Railway showing it being towed to a new museum site in a fresh coat of paint.

OK - a number of off-topic posts have been removed. Now, what we were talking about? Oh yes, the A4s coming to the UK. Carry on ...

I'm not aware anything has been formally announced. But the two visitors are here for 2 years, so I imagine there will be multiple opportunities to see them, with no doubt of a programme of events mixing them with other suitable locos - one of those events no doubt being to see all 6 A4s together. The specifics of that event would also depend on the commitments of the A4s that are currently in steam, so i guess it is too early to really say where and when the meeting would take place right now.

No im not JH , but just think of this a minute, with the owners concent, how much of a thank you would it be if Bittern were to undertake a tour of canada she has the spare water tender and air brakes , mainline steam is very rare out there and also it could make money to pay for shipping costs etc and them maybe DoC could get overhauled whilst she is here as part of the deal, there is a share boiler sitting there after all and then the boiler from 60010 is it? could be used on Bittern once she returns i cant see either party saying no the engines dont change ownership and even if 60010 isnt restored for use in Canada once she returns what price an A4 running tours and could even run into America also to run a few tours i cant think of a better way of the uk saying thank you

The motion was repainted in 1999/2000 prior to the museum building being built around her.
There are some pictures taken during it's outside storage that winter, (It had been put into position, but the walls were yet to be built).

some similar pictures of 60010 here..

You say that but the line up at Shildon would be easier to assemble and offer the best possibility for general admissions (if there are to be a general and premium option) to get a semi decent photo. Anyway, I managed it last year for a day visit* so would be more than happy to go there for this line up. And this is from a staunch Southerner living near Southampton!

    * That trip was from just outside Pickering while on holiday.

It was more of a personal wish for myself for 60010 but you bring up a good point about who's paying for the cosmetic restoration of 60010 (and possibly 60008) as well as the costs of getting 60008 out of its building and then transporting both A4's to a port and then shipping them to the UK before moving them to where ever they'll be based. Thats going to cost a lot of money.

I would love the chance to see all 6 A4's together but if at Shildon would have no idea how to get there for myself as I can't yet drive so the only way I can travel is by train and its a long way from deep Sussex.

Trouble is, at every six-A4 line-up you go to, you'll walk away knowing that hundreds of other enthusiasts will have taken all the same shots that you did!

And what's the problem with that? Is an experience any less valuable if you know hundreds of others had essentially the same opportunity as you? Things are what you make of them - if you have a good time, and you get a photo you are pleased with, what does it matter if everyone else got a similar photo?

You may get the same picture, but at least we can say we were there and saw them together. Photographs are good, but nothing beats the experience of being there.

I bet all those at the Rainhill Trials, and Shildon 1975 all said the Same thing...

Dont forget you can always run a railtour to Shildon.

...also surely it's better to be able to see 6 lined up and get some slightly poorer photos than to never get the chance!
