RALPH, how the hell can me and herself retain our cloak of anonymity with you broadcasting our intention.:director: .............:frusty:

Only joking...............YES..............our annual steam day tour, we're only poor pensioners we can't afford any more.
So if James is watching at WCRC, lets have some decent stock matey

Well it is the only railtour in the near future that picks up at Dewsbury so it did not take much deducing, anyway you are not allowed privacy when you go on a railtour, we expect constant updates, phots of the event posted here before you get to Edinburgh, and a constant stream of tweets....:typing:.

This is ideal Edinbrough from Dewsbury, with steam from York later. We thought about this but its only 2 days before heading for WSR Gala where will no doubt once again bump into 'alberta' and his dad.

Prefer the Broadside on draught in a pub Victor, but if they have some bottles on you will no doubt know its kick.

I think Ralph, if he is on this tour, should arrange for Mr + Mrs V'sr photos (supping real ale) to be taken and posted on here. This as an example to others of what REAL enthusiasts drink on rail tours!!!!!!!!!!!

Not just Ralph - if ANY NatPres member is on the tour, they could give us updates on Victor (or anyone who they think might be him). They should be able to recognise him from his avatar:

If Dewsbury wasn't such an inaccessible place to get to from this side of t'hills at that time of day, I would personally be there to wave the happy couple off on their romantic trip....

On excursions on holiday there is often a cameraman who makes a recording of the day for you to purchase. Perhaps someone from Nat pres who is on this tour could do something similar and produce a DVD of Mr+Mrs V. enjoying their day out?

Bringing us back on topic I see tomorrrow's loco change on the return is at Farington Junction which seems unusual. Has it been done before?

:mmph: Have we nearly finished with all this c rap because it really is getting a bit tiring. What the hell has "i've done this, I've dealt with them, I've eaten here there and everywhere" got to do with a day out on the railway? The topic is the CME's , slight straying off topic is common, but what we are getting here is a slanging match.
C'mon fellas, you can do better than this, there are no winners. :focus:

I have been travelling mainline steam since the 80s and as a young trainspotter in the 60's (before I realised that girls offered an even more excitable alternative to trains), In 50 years I have never travelled over the Settle and Carlisle line. Yes, seriously. Never!

Apart from a 1 in 100 climb for a few miles, can someone do a selling job on me and tell me what is the special magic of the line. Clearly speed is not on the cards as I understand there is a speed restriction over the entire route of 60mph - I could be wrong there of course.

So, what's the magic? Why are the CME's running with tickets being snapped up very fast?

Enlighten me please and then perhaps in the twilight of my time in this place, I just could find myself sat in a mark 1 coach over the Long Drag!!

Well from a loco performance point of view there's more than just a few miles of climbing, especially in the SB direction via Langho, and other than that there's the fabulous scenery of the route especially in summer not to mention its fascinating history and the incredible feat of engineering it is, with many long viaducts and tunnels. Most of the line is still block semaphore signalling as well. It's a line we almost lost forever so it's dear to the hearts of many people, and a ride behind steam on the S&C has a buzz about it that you don't really get anywhere else.

Couldn't agree more with stopping all this arguing as well. Time for some self-moderation. :mod: :focus:

Agreed, I will move some of the more off topic stuff out of the thread later today to a seperate thread in general chat, I'm just a bit busy at the moment.
