Late again! A video of yesterday on the blustery climb to Shap, a snowy Ais Gill and a dark Bamber Bridge:

44932 and 45305 on The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express - 18/02/2012 - YouTube

Kiddie-winkies don't worry me too much, they are part of life - though I do wonder at their parents lack of control sometimes. Perhaps I just worry too much about their safety!

Thanks for letting us see your footage recently, absolutely inspiring stuff. If you have not been on PSOV's site, have a look at their 'Once in a lifetime day on the S&C'. I'm sure you would find that of interest. It's got two black fives to boot On 28th Jan 2012.

Fabulous day yesterday, haven't been on many steam tours in the last few years but the one's I have been on have been excellent. Two locos on top form, fabulous countryside and some interesting weather as well! A short request to RTC at the time of booking paid dividends and they provided myself and my dad seats at the front of the train meaning we had unbelievable sound effects up Shap, many thanks, greatly appreciated still £69 per head as well..
One thing of note was the tight timings between Carnforth and Carlisle. We were held for the 'Stobart express' and left 10mins late. Despite very good climbs of Grayrigg and Shap and liberal interpretations of the loco's 60mph limit onwards to Carlisle, we were still 8 minutes late! Seats at the front, meant we were at the back on the return, so I spent some time at the window on the climb up the Long Drag. The two black fives could still be heard clearly as we headed into the bleak wilderness and blizzards. Many thanks to the brave photographers who have captured some stunning footage in some inclement conditions in the last few weeks. Also many thanks to RTC, West Coast and all the support crews who have come together to produce a series of trains that show railtours can still be run at sensible prices and work. What started at 4 tours is now 5, all are sold out and yesterday loaded to 13 coaches - some positive lessons can be learnt here. We now plan to book on an excursion to Weymouth in the summer.

A little late due to frustrating computer problems, my short offering from yesterday, including a brief glimps of Les Ross speeding through a very wet and deserted Acton Bridge, note the plume of spray from the pantograph, before a mad dash to Oxenholme for the 5s.

This is the re edited version correcting the sound problem.

This has been a splendid series of steam runs; let's hope that the return of steam CME's is going to be repeated in 2013 - I'll be a bit quicker about booking instead of just observing.

Don't know if it's just me Ralph, but your sound seems well behind what the pictue is showing, I can hear the Fives passing the camera when the picture shows them disappearing towards Shap.

Thank you for your kind words, I did think at one point up at Ais Gill that I am possibly mad but then I took a look around and I wasn't the only one up there in a blizzard!!

Must admit the sound is a bit out of sync, I've been having a lot of unexplained problems with my video capture and editing. I often use the sound from one camera with the picture from another. The HD camera does not seem to get as good sound as the older SD camera so I shoot with both and edit the sound to the better picture. Had a lot of trouble getting it right as the editor I am having to use at the moment does not offer the fine positioning hence the discrepancy.

Had another go at it David and now got it much better, didn't realise when I first did it how far out it was, and have no idea why it happened. :confused1:

Easy to miss something like that when your baffled why your Camera/Video is playing up, certainly looks like you did a good job taking it, even if something got lost in translation to initially.

Well done to all those brave souls who ventured out and brought the images and footage back for those of us too soft to suffer for the hobby!

I think it ought to be mentioned there appeared to be no heating problems with the train on saturday. Lovely and warm both with ETH on the class 86 section and also with steam heat on the steam section. I walked the length of the train a few times and it appeared warm throughout. Thank you West Coast much appreciated.
