71000 website says loco withdrawn pending assessment of damage following an incident on 26th February. Does anyone know what happened?

Please dont say "we cant talk about it, it is under investigation"--I am just asking what happened, not asking for opinions as to the why and wherefore.

Apparently according to one member of DA who was there sunday, 71000 was still in action but could only work T&T. 45231 also continued in the gala except for a small absence at the begining of the day.
I dont know any further information and this is all I could find out from my searching last night.

Actually, as there will in all probability be an investigation, even if only internally by the railway, there should be no discussions which could prejudice the outcome of any such action or cast blame erroneously on any individual or individuals.

True, but a simple statement of what happened (such as 71000 was in collision with vehicle XYZ) would not be inappropriate (in my opinion of course)

Oakfield: I asked "what happened" -.facts, not "discussion".

Lets say for arguments sake there "was a coming-together of two locomotives, with minor damage...etc" How can that "prejudice the outcome of any such action or cast blame..."?

    Edit: Cheers martin, great minds...!

Yes we only want to know the facts. Whats wrong with that? Everybody's too 'politically correct ' nowadays.:

It is nothing to do with political correctness, rather it is to ensure fairness to all involved and that all the facts are disclosed in the right place.

Right, best not to discuss phone hacking and the tabloid press, in case we influence the fair outcome of the Leveson Inquiry.

Agreed, we know there was a collision. As to what happened, who was to blame etc. etc. we need to await investigations.

I'm sorry but this is yet another of the "our railway wants your money" - but when something / anything happens - "its nothing to do with you" Sorry to rain on your parade, but if an incident is in the public domain its far better to make a clear statement about it than let the rumour machine run.

That is not pre-judging or being prejudicial to any enquiry, but managing the news and leaving the way open for a proper investigation of what occurred, and how, and what needs to be done so that it doesn't happen again.

That's perhaps the difference between the old Railway Inspectorate days and the present RAIB ones. RI was forensic so as to learn, RAIB seems forensic so as to apportion blame, so everyone clams up.

There's nothing wrong with quoting something which is published elsewhere on a public website, as long as you say where it came from. Even better would be to link to the other website, just as buseng did ... just in case they've got it wrong (shock, horror!).

So nobody should discuss the Concordia sinking because it could prejudice the outcome of an enquiry?
    Come on. Get real.

Well, I did hear on Sunday night that the Duke had had some sort of 'coming together' with 45231. However I didn't think it was appropriate to ask or speculate here. However, it's now been mentioned/confirmed here

    Steam Railway | Facebook

Hope it all gets sorted out asap.

So it appears 71000 and 45231 had a collision, that is fact (according to Steam Railway) rather than speculation so i don't see the problem, I assume what people don't want discussing currently is the how and why it happened, personally im happy to leave that to any investigation.

My only question is, is 45231 similarly damaged or was she luckier ?.
