Some excellent photo's and videos on this thread. Had to miss this due to to other commitments. Looks like it was a good run.

Here she is about 10mins down at Christian Malford. Had it been on time I would have got it in full sun... You win some you lose some!

I've given this photo an old look, and also edited the Intercity and the Blue coach.

  3. Very nice pics. Thanks for sharing!

First of all, what a great selection of videos and photos from yesterday.

The king was turned out in its usual superb condition and looks to have put on a great show all the way to London, much to the pleasure of all who went out to see, and travel on board.

For 6024's final run to Pad before overhaul and always wanting to get a pic of steam on the fast at Moreton, KE1 put on a great show accelerating from her water stop just a few miles away. As the wires will be going up in the near future and most likely before 6024 can recreate this scene once again in a few years time, ive edited out the Intercity mk2 to give a final reminder of what a 'Bristolian' would have been like before the surroundings sadly change dramatically.

Reading, looking over the "Southern" platforms to the up through road. Don't know where the vantage point was though.
    In the concourse somewhere?

No, but I am not the one always crying about "boxes" on the back like a stuck record! No "box" on the train on Saturday, so you moan about the colour of the wagons. Conclusion reached is you just like moaning, not travelling.....

The run to Wantage Road in the morning had a series of checks, not sure why we slowed on the climb towards box, signals? Stopped at Swindon I believe due to a lineside hot axel box detector going off, clearly a false alarm. Swift watering saw us away only a couple of minutes down and a great run to Paddington, fast line all the way but we were checked at Airport Junc. to allow the Heathrow Express to go ahead.

On the return we were slow line to Reading then a good run to Challow. After water the fire went dead and the crew did well to coax 6024 along. Eventually the fire came around after bath and we had a good final run in; 6024 was even blowing off in Temple Meads!

All in all a good day out, thanks to all involved.

On train video and one lovely off-train shot at Bathampton:

Quite right of course, taken from 3rd floor adjoining office block where my daughter in law works. Stopped off with kids (Thomas fanatics) to see prior to a few hours in The Oracle !!

Sure you enjoyed it all...and kept to time it seems. Strange that the 'fire' comes into it again. The engine must suffer more than most; assume it was down to the coal (again?) but doubtless we shall we can get an expert opinion in due course. A great turn to finish the current main line Paddington runs.

The checks at Keynsham and Box were bridge restrictions. As well as catching a Heathrow Xpress at West Drayton we also got checked approaching Paddington as an HST was coming out and crossing our path into P1. Net time up from Wantage Road about 58 minutes for 60.3 miles. We averaged over 70 mph for the 43.24 miles from Steventon to West Drayton including the slowing for Reading. The 4 cylinder roar coming away from the WDrayton check was something else! Going down the engine was worked hard from Reading to the Challow water stop and as sometimes happens the fire then went dead during the long stop. Shame as the performance for the rest of the day was quite superb with a very heavy 13 coach 500 ton gross train. Excellent day out from Pathfinder Tours and no DL on the back!
