To be fair to both RTC and WCRC at least they were in a position to offer another substitute locomotive that is able to work the tour. I reckon 44932 will make it over Upton Scudamore, its done it before with 12 on (admittedly in August when the weather was good) and 11 in November 2 years ago. Will have to see what the loading is on the day but at least its still steam!

44932 isn't in a maintenance period. What was I thinking.
At least I'm not writing big huge paragraphs about much of this stuff anymore.

Didn't realise a Class 5 had taken so heavy a load up that climb. Should sound good. :)

Indeed it should! Looking forward to seeing 44932 along the mainline from Waterloo.

Doesn't 73096 have 6' 2" ( same as Bulleids) driving wheels which would allow it to run at 75mph. Anything 6' & under is 60mph, except the smaller wheel locos, 8F's, pannier tanks etc. Which are lower.

Not sure how you can deduce over 60nph running based on that video?

Ahh bless you, I take it you've never been behind a Black 5 at speed then or even working hard?

In all fairness for the passengers, nothing against Tangmere, the 5 will be making much more noise which I'm sure the travellers on board will appreciate! 44932 will more than cope with the loading!

Personally i'd pick a Five every time over a Bulleid seeing as front end noise is the big attraction for me.

Indeed it has. It was on 5th August, 2010 soon after it returned to the main line. <BJ>

44932 did the Bath & Bristol (standing in for Tangmere again as it was up at WCRC) on the 25th Nov 2010.

As far as I remember the timings didn't change & it ran on time - it was anyway when I photo'd it in the morning.

It had 11 on the back & NO box.

    Found this too:
44932 The Bath & Bristol Christmas Express 25/11/10 - YouTube

It's a shame I'm Up North to see the THE SHAP, SETTLE AND CARLISLE & the THE CUMBRIAN MOUNTAIN EXPRESS this weekend, as it's very very rare to see a 5MT down here, but I just can't miss the double headed Earl & Lizzy though.

44932 (together with 45305) was in very fine form a couple of weeks ago on the CME and certainly wouldn't have been accused of holding up WCML traffic that day. The 60mph limit for Black 5's is ludicrous i'm afraid, but still persists. However, in my experience they are generally driven to what the timings dictate (within reason!) and it wouldn't be the first time a five (or in particular 44932) has deputised on pacific timings.

Have you checked to see if you still have a pulse? If a Black 5 working hard leaves you unmoved then you may well be dead. :)

I have no problems with 5's. Although it may have appeared that way in what I said. I do wish that someone could put LMS on some of those tenders instead of all of them being with BR logos.
