Great news on 34092. I would love her to be refitted with her Giesel and back on the mainline as I wasn't born during the 80's. But she will look great with those Bulleid coaches that Keighley have.

Sorry for the delay in getting the news out. We try to keep our shareholders informed first. There's an update on the SLL website: Southern Locomotives Ltd | Latest News

A great weekend of news on 2 Bullied locomotives.
I really like how KWVR has kept the overhaul of 34092 quiet and low key in terms of publications.
Sir Keith Park, How many people here knew about the move to SVR before it was announced?

I did as a shareholder. This exercise proves that its good to keep things secret now and again, as it creates greater interest and surprise for all but the most jaded enthusiast.

What kind of condition is 34010 in? Are SLL looking at starting her restoration once 34053 has left the works?

Think they want to concentrate on 34072's overhaul first and i know 80078 was mentioned aswell. If they are overhauling two at once i would think 34010 will have a bit longer to wait.

I think that some work has been undertaken on 34010, and at one stage it was planned to be restored ahead of 34053. It was the lack of any other memorial to Sir Keith Park that caused 34053 to jump the queue. I think I'm right in saying that 34010 was in better condition when purchased, and was always intended to be a runner, whereas 34053 came close to being merely a source of spares. So when restoration does resume on 34010, it should be more straightforward than the rebuild of 34053. We're obviously in for a long wait, but it will be worth it when it does emerge. It's the only other surviving rebuilt "WC" apart from 34016 that originally ran with a crest over the nameplate - a small point, but it does add something (34046's new crest looks rather good, I must say, even if it didn't originally have one)

It will be interesting to see what relationships SLL builds away from Swanage. After all, it is possible that they may have no less than four operational Bulleids in a few years time. This may sound like seventh heaven to some of us, but not exactly a dream ticket for the Operations people at Swanage.

    Don't they actually have a potential 5?

I doubt they would want all 5 operational at the same time. Specially if there is a few year gap between each locomotive returning to steam, it wouldn't really be possible with the current set up. Not forgetting 80078, 80104 and Norman providing when that does require an overhaul it would be done at Herston.

    As it stands with the locomotives in ticket, 34028 (2003 though entered service early 2004), 80104 (2006), 34070 (2008), Norman (early 2011), 34053 (steamed 2011), 34072 (2013?).

So as 34072 comes into traffic 34028 could already be out of service, then in years to come when 34xxx comes into traffic, 34xxx may have already come out. I wouldn't see much point in having all 5 operational at the same time anyway and personally would see it as too much of a luxury.

5 engines would be theoretically possible, and I believe from reading the website reports that they are making/restoring all parts for each loco and not borrowing bits from stored locos. However, they are only building/restoring 4 tenders, so unless they borrowed a tender from somewhere, it wouldn't be possible to run all 5 locos simultaneously

5 engines would be possible but it was asked about 5 Bulleids. I don't doubt we will see them have a mixture of Bulleids, Standard tanks/Norman totalling 5 but i think 5 Bulleids all operational is quite ambitious? Plus of course the reason you have stated with the tenders.

I wouldn't have thought it feasible to have all five SLL Bulleids running in parallel, for at least one will be in the works. I think four is the most we can expect at the same time, which would still be an outstanding achievement. However, it will take a long time for this to happen, and would depend on agreements made with other railways, as we cannot expect Swanage to home all of them plus the Std. 4MTs. Once again, this is my own opinion.

I was merely pointing out that they had 5 bulleids, not 4. The notion that they would all be serviceable at one time was not intended.

Great news, last time I visited the KWVR to see her she was in the South on a main line tour and by the time I arrived home she was back in Yorkshire,no www to keep tracks on loco's in those days, but happy days, I am holidaying in the Yorkshire Dales this year and will hopefully be able to see City of Wells in steam again for the first time since the early 60's. What a bonus.

34046 Braunton. A recent visitor to the WSR from the Mid Hants told us that Braunton is going to borrow the tender from Wadebridge to enable her to go mainline. Wadebridge is then going to use Port Lines tender for a while. Braunton was running with the tender from Port Line before her new one was completed. Does anyone know if this is correct and why it is happening.
