Sorry--I am very prone to using initials SDR/WSR etc. Yes SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY Totnes - Buckfastleigh easily reached by train to Totnes. A very friendly line with ace egg n chips in the cafe at Buckers.

Can think of one that fits the criteria and in the area a couple of weeks before Easter.

My money is on 80072; be very happy to see that on the line. Don't miss a look at splendidly restored Staverton station, if you haven't been before.

The SDR website isn't exactly pushing this event, but it promises:

"6th - 9th April: Easter Heritage Gala. Steam and diesel trains all day, intensive service, goods trains, auto trains"

Any hints of the locos concerned? I'm especially interested in the diesels.

    Thanks for any help!

I've heard 78019 mentioned somewhere. 9466 is (or certainly was) there as well. Be nice to see the big pannier running in black down there.

The mogul would be a real treat - she came down to the West Somerset a couple of years ago and looked splendid.

If I was being really greedy, Didcot might release their GWR flying banana railcar to work this iconic GWR branch; after all this is a mixed traction gala! That is not to be taken as any suggestion that it might ever happen, don't want to start absolutely unfounded speculation, only dreaming!

Seriously, though the SDR is really coming on leaps and bounds, and is constantly offering something a little (or a lot) different.

    Railcar 22 is on here

I suspect though that they will not want to 22 on a low loader . I'm sure i've seen it written that it stresses the frame and mechanicals too much

so rail travel is the option . Just need a lottery win to pay for it

Yes, I now remember that transport issues scuppered W22 going to the railcar event at Severn Valley Railway a few years ago.

We are planning to have one (or maybe two) visting engines for our Easter gala, which should give for an extremely interesting event. There will be limited diesel turns but the main focus will be on the (hopefully) visiting steam locos. Negotiations are well advanced and we are just waiting to finalise the legal stuff. As soon as this is done, details will be released, however if everything goes to plan then we should see some interesting combinations!

9466 has left now after works on the bunker were finished and therefore won't be at the gala.

I'm very pleased that we can now officially announce that Standard 2 No 78019 will be visiting us from the Great Central Railway, for a few of our galas this year, starting with our Easter gala from 6th to 9th April. There is still hopefully another visiting loco to be announced for Easter, which should see the gala kept at a high Standard of interest for everyone!!

I'm currently in the process of finishing off the working timetables for this event which will be released when the other loco is confirmed!!

In the meantime, as a taster, Easter should see some nice BR branch trains with tail traffic, BR goods trains and some interesting double headers. Trains will run from around 08:30 each day, finishing at about 22:30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and at 18:30 on Monday!

This looks really grand! 78019 on a train at Riverford Bridge will look rather like the Mid Wales line of lamented memory, really looking forward to this.
