Fun weekend from the crew's point of view. Had a very enjoyable day on Saturday firing 5199, and looking at the trains despite the disappointment of only 2 steam locos the trains were very full and there was a number of people taking pictures. There was even the sight of 6046 in steam in the yard on Sunday! Hopefully those who did attend enjoyed themselves, and look forward to what we can do next time.

 

Did anyone get any shots of the S160 in steam over the weekend? Would be fascinating to see what stage its at..?

No probs! Yeah should be out soon, well hopefully anyway because it'll be CVR's only steam loco when 45379 goes around MidMarch...

looking at the loco situation does anyone know if there any plans to draft in another steam loco to accompany the yank
i notice that 45379 isnt going to the battlefield line now does that maen it is staying a little longer !!!

44767 may be there until May, when its due to go to the NNR. Whether it will be a runner before it leaves is another question

 

45379's last operating day on the Railway is the 14th March according to CVR.

 

Will 45379 operate this weekends 04/03/12 service to cauldon lowe do you know???

 

Should be yes, as 5199 has gone & 44767 has been withdrawn!

 

In which case, can I deduce that the S160 will be due to make its debut this weekend? Or are we expecting crompton haulage/DMU?

 

So do we know anything about the motive power situation yet? I'm guessing it's going to be diesel usage until the S160 is back in service?

 

I've been worrying about the lack of steam imminence for months now but as usually happens when I worry, the CVR controllers always came up with an answer that allayed my fears. But it seems they have failed this time and the outlook is bleak for steam enthusiasts as I can't really see the S160 being ready for quite a while yet. Maybe someone from MPD might like to comment?
