    I would have loved to have seen this fantastic steam theatre on the Lickey, but unfortunately had to work.

    Bob, I think that next time, you really should consider sending some Vintage Trains representitives into the fields and along the footpath by the track at Blackwell to "shake the bucket" for donations. I think you could have recieved several hundred pounds. I think MikeParkin65 is correct, if you had a Paypal account, many people here would donate money, its such an easy way to do it.

    If you aren't able to give details of a Paypal account. I'll send you a cheque for £5.

    The two trains in a day to Worcester, back up the Lickey idea is a great one. I remember when you did it with Rood Ashton and Kinlet Halls a few years ago.

    Done - thanks for putting on the show.

    Most people still react more positively to a bucket being shaken though. Just one person at Vigo around 4 - 4:30pm could have collected an awful lot.

    Nice to see virtually everyone stuck to the public side of the fence - but on a slightly more negative note, some of the parking on the road at Vigo had to be seen to be believed. On more than one occasion there was virtual gridlock.

    There are all kinds of legal issues with collecting monies in buckets….and yes – someone would bring it up.

    Also, no-one is going to pay before the show, and as soon as the train goes past, everyone is in their cars and off…so exactly when could you collect monies?

    I think you should do a tour from tyseley around the west midlands, going via Kidderminster outbound maybe all the way to Hereford.. Turn and service the 2 engines.. And then run back via worcester upto bromsgrove and the lickey.. Maybe try and organise 2 trips In one day.. The general public are asking and I think these tours would fill a lot better and more families would use you because of the early finishing and cheaper costs.. Maybe charge about £60 standard class... I reason you'd fill 11 coaches easy with the attraction of a big engine ie.. Tornada or duchess and but the great western Earl on the back ..

    What do you guys at vintage trains about the interested of a 2 way round trip of the west midlands?

    Am I right in thinking Hereford lacks turning facilities since Bulmers went ?.

    Worcester - Hereford is a pleasant enough run through the Malverns but you'd probably need to carry on to Newport before you can head back and Brum - Newports not doable twice in a day.

    I don't think there is from my partial knowledge of Hereford's railways. Turning at Worcester is possible but it's very hard to find a path around the triangle that fits into the timetable.

    It's a shame so many people choose to lineside and not to travel on the trains,if everyone did donate (if a fundraiser was sent to the scene for instance) it would be great,we all know that that's not the case thought,some of the more arrogant linesiders are often known to get quite offended when asked for a donation,there have been a couple of famous incidents over the last 15 years where arguements with linesiders have taken place. Quite why such offense is taken I don't know,instead of a simple "sorry mate,no change" reply some people seem to go over the top! Sadly it's this minority who wont ever contribute and would be the first to complain when the trains stop running. In the main I think that fundraising would be a success but don't be surprised to see some fiery exchanges with these "enthusiasts".

    Of course some of those at the lineside do go on trips,some even on a regular basis which is fine IMO.

    Some lovely photos and videos of this tour. I would have been there myself but the light an combinations at the SVR were too goo to miss. After August, the facing connection at Kidderminster will be in place. Id love to see the two panniers do Tyseley, Bridgnorth, Walsall, Stratford, Tyseley.

    Correct, no turning facility at Hereford now.

    If Worcester is difficult due to traffic, then maybe the key is to design a tour that requires a tender engine to be turned at SVR Kidderminster, perhaps whilst the train is taken by SVR engines for at least a part-journey down the SVR?

    With the two Panniers turning is presumably not an issue, just restricted coal and water. Didn't I read somewhere that either one, or both the remaining unrestored large Prairies** at TYS are now being overhauled? Now that would open up the possibilities....

    ** 4110 and 4121, but I appreciate they are shown as "Guest" engines on the VT website, ie not necessarily in TYS ownership.

    Its all very well saying we should do this and that, but will you pay £70 to ride on it? We are not trying to make a huge profit here......THIS IS WHAT MAINLINE STEAM COSTS!!!!

    we are digressing away a little bit from the Lickey

    I would love to travel by steam up the lickey but the harsh fact that with a Mortgage and young family I just don't have the disposable income to take them all nor do i find it fair on them to spend a lot on me. The days are also long and beyond the tolerance of children (mine at least) and the rest of your clientele when my two get tired and noisy !! . We'll be on the Shakespeare's as it's a nice affordable main line blast even my wife enjoy's and we'll be at the open days which hopefully helps , contributes and supports

    If you did a more affordable lickey trip i'd be on it . There will be a donation from me for Saturday and i'm very grateful to all who made it possible so I could show and share the experience of steam on the Lickey to my three year old

    My apologies for digressing this thread. With the wires extending down the bank, steam on the lickey is going to be even more rare once this is completed. We need to enjoy it whie we still have it!

    Donation made (for a short stay for 7029). I think the posters here have a point about maybe considering a 2 trips on a day up the Lickey. To be honest I'd be more likely to pay a realistic fare for a train that started at a leisurely time (9 o clock or later) and which picked up and dropped off locally (I live in Worcester). And the less of an ordeal the trip was the more likely I'd be able to persuade my partner (who isn't interested in railways but enjoys a good day out) to join me.
