Peterborough - Salisbury April 4th 2012

Does anyone know what route this is taking southbound? According to UK Steam it is going via South Acton, Kew, Hounslow and Staines and according to the SD site it is going via Southall and Reading.

 

Interesting - the Uk Steam site has not been updated today for this train (shown as 60136 Tornado, by the way) - when was the SD site last updated? I did wonder at the apparent lack of waterstop(s) from the Uk Steam timings, too. There is a wait at Staines DGL on the way down and again at West Hampstead on the return, but they are not specifically listed as water stops. We will have to await clarificaton. I had hoped to be at Brookwood to film a fast run - but won't go out all the way to Basingstoke for a slow ramble off the Reading route!
Incidentally, also on Uk Steam, 60163 is shown as passing Woking at 1245 (presumably on the fast line as it's not scheduled to stop again until Salisbury) but there is an Exeter departure from Woking at 1246. Given the speed differential, I would imagine the Exeter train would soon catch up with the steam on the fast line.

 

Given the intensity of the service at West Hampstead, I cannot see there being the capacity for a water stop there at any time in either direction.

 

Stops are at Staines DGL (outward) and Kew East Jc (return)

Good. I agree with you, Roger P, about the 'busy-ness' of West Hampstead, but the Uk Steam times still show a 20 minute stop there, and, as it would appear to be slightly easier to gain access for a water fill there than at Kew East Junction (which only has a 12 minute stop shown), I assumed they had somehow found a slot at WH. Anyway, the main issue is really the routeing - good to have confirmation - thanks, SouthoftheThames.

 

Might be wrong but I think Tornado stopped at West Hampstead on its Cambridge to Oxford run in December so it is do-able

 

The West Hampstead stop is 3 mins !

 

I've just refreshed the page at UKS and the 2012 to 2032 stop at West Hampstead has changed to 2029 to 2032 - that makes much more sense! Must have been a typo previously.

 

Very much looking forward to this trip. My first steam run of 2012 and my first time ever from Hertford North or to Salisbury for that matter. Lets hope the sun shines, but the forcast says we will need a warm coat.

 

Pesmo - being very selfish; I am hoping it's cold as I intend to video at Brookwood and the colder the better for visible exhaust! However, what will be, will be. I hope you get the sun when you want it. Certainly a huge contrast to last week's conditions.

 

Judging by the forecasts, it will be cold however also wet.

Might be me being too earlier but just tried to subscribe to the tour through rail tour live and it's linked it to the same code as last weeks Catherdrals Express? Is it a simple case of refresh or is there something lurking deeper?

I'll update on here either way as I'm planning on hitchin footbridge again to view her or the station car park.

Doesn't look like the codes have been updated on the RTL website, last one being 31st March. I've subscribed via the UK Steam link on to t0404a and that now shows on my RTL page under 'Current tours subscribed to:'. Assuming the RTL is still working ok and we use the code showing on UK Steam all the updates should work.

That's done the trick. Now subscribed. It's 23min late apparently which was about 20min ago so it's due through here shortly (hitchin). Was held to let a late running east coast get ahead I've been informed.

Through hitchin a 10:05. 23min late. 67011 at the rear with what sounds to be a dodgey air compressor. Looks to same stock as last weeks minus a crimson and cream as mentioned above.
