Yes,I had a particularly bad evening for throwing stuff about........not had one for a while so may as well chuck the lot down myself in one go,brand new shirt and all that!

Yes we were sat opposite Bill the "timekeeping chappy",we did 74 I believe max on the return.

As for a coach defect, there was a battered mk2 added from Barrow Hill at Derby, plenty of smashed windows etc but that was like it before it got on the train, wasn't bouncing off the sleepers when it left Chesterfield anyway........

Well, I watched the first couple of minutes of your video before, I must confess, I fell asleep out of sheer boredom and originally completely missed the extremely gloomy after-sunset shot at 4.50 minutes.

But, hang on a minute, from what little could be seen, hadn’t the headboard in discussion, the huge rectangular one that, initially, had caused concern to so many, been replaced with one that was far more appropriate?

Indeed, if there does exist an official insistence (as appears to be the case) that some form of train identification is always in evidence, the “Night Owl” offering was probably the best one by far that I have seen to-date.

Is the subject really now closed, Mr Whitby? No, don’t bother answering that!

I'm sorry if some people do not like on board shots, on the other hand there are plenty that do. Can't please all of the people all of the time etc etc....

The only use for a lot of headboards is as a raffle prize on the tour.

The traditional shape a la Night Owl is by far the best option, but for the digital warriors, photoshop is your best friend! (and if you really, really, want a lamp iron - just clone a smokebox hinge!)

For me the Duchess now looks like a real semi again and if that makes the paint colour warriors froth at the mouth - then can we eventually go back to red via B R blue, just to wind up the red in the face brigade - she would knock your socks off in that colour!

That extra water space on the tender Looks like a very easy way to add an extra couple of hundred gallons of water. By painting it black it doesn't spoil the profile too much.

It can't spoil the profile that much if you've only just noticed it, it was added to the tender around 12 years ago !

A "semi"? Isn't that one with the flattened top to the smokebox? IIRC that was an intermediate stage after the streamlined casing had been removed. I guess not many ran like that, and not for long.

'Semi' was coined as a spotters term after the streamlined casing was removed (semi-streamined). The term stuck after the loco's recieved 'normal' smokeboxes. The whole class in BR days were 'semi's' to spotters in North-West Lancs, right up to the end in '64.

Quite correct John, as I didn't see any in the 'semi-streamlined' state, I didn't even know where the name came from until preservation days and never thought to ask, we just knew them by that name.

And I like your on train vids Ralph!

Thanks Mike, unfortunately the small camera I use onboard has developed a couple of faults, so has gone back to Sony Service for repair (did I hear a faint cheer somewhere), so will not be taking any Wednesday with Cromwell from Southport, pity really as the start out of Victoria up Miles Platting should sound good. Lets hope someone gets to the regular lineside location for that. My other camera is to big to hang out of a window with unless I want to act like that infamous one on Copy Pit a bit back.

Dont forget that 6233 (in fact 6230 - 6234) were never Semi's. They never had streamlining in the first place, so they couldn't become semi's when it was removed. 6230-34 always had fully cylindrical smokeboxes.

Yes, but streamlined or not the whole class were always known as 'semis' to us spotters.

    Hi All

Apologies for being a bit late in posting after what has been a crazy week, but see a link below to my pic of 46233 at Willington.

All sizes | 6233 Willington | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I personally think its the best livery it could carry and looks absolutely stunning from the photos posted. A real credit to the PRCLT, cheers lads.

    Many thanks
