The planning application is actually to South Hams District Council and can be viewed at southhams.gov.uk using application reference 30/2831/11/F - this gives full info including photographs of the site and visual plans as well as the application itself and some (amusing!) objections, which turn out to be largely from employees of the (competing) ferry company. The application status is given as "registered" (ie: not yet approved) so the inclusion in the 2012 timetable is on the assumption is will be approved. The tone of the responses from the official bodies looks positive.

The application also clarifies that up trains will not call (except the lighter morning trains) due to difficulty in re-starting, and that passengers from Paignton will need to return by taking the down train to Kingswear and then return to Paignton.

This begs the question of will it be cheaper to buy a return from Paignton to Greenway than a return from Paignton to Kingswear as you'll effectively end up doing a full line journey with both?

The application says that passengers using Greenway will have to buy full-line tickets, and that no separate fares to Greenway will be specified.

Interesting. The biased objectors give little substance to their objections. What is given is flawed in many cases "the new station will increase (assume road) traffic" No it won't, there is no car park, access is by train and on foot only!

In contrast the responses from those in authority are well considered and supportive, pointing out the overwhelming benefits the new platform will bring.

Due process will happen for sure. I look forward to my first disembarkation at Greenway Halt!!

I understand a new signal box is being built at Kingswear too. Will this replace Britannia Crossing?

The PDSR will be quite different when I return it seems.

The Kingswear Signal Box construction is now the railway's control centre. Brittannia will remain as the signal box.

Paignton Station is coming along very well, nearly all of the demolition work is done. There is timber going in to the building left, right and centre. The electricians are beginning their side of the renewals and the groundworkers are cracking on with foundations for the various new builds going around the old frame. The railway is helping with the project by providing support to various contractors with jobs that can only be done by rail.

Sounds like the rebuild is coming along then.

What is the difference between a Control Centre and signal box? Are they just offices or will Kingswear box and Britannia be manned together?

The missus was putting down old newspapers for our new cocker spaniel puppy today when I caught sight of a picture of Tornado on a Torbay Express. So I fetched it up for a closer look. Then I noticed the accompanying article was all about a proposed week-day steam service between Taunton (WSR) and Kingswear. Negotiations were under way etc. etc. I missed that one completely. I think the article was back in Jan.
Anyone heard of this, or have an update? Seems like a great idea if it has a business case of course.

Last week the 25 moved a load of coaches down to Paignton, and the embankments have all had a haircut, so I guess things are gearing up. I wonder if 7827 is to be back in traffic right away? 6024 pays a visit next Sat.

So far so good. We opened on Saturday, this year we are open every day through the season, we are now oerating until 4th November.

Queens Park is not quite finished, but we have people working hard to get it finished as soon as we can. The Booking Hall and Shop are complete, the cafe is following closely behind, hopefully we will be able to add the cafe by the weekend. The offices and workshop are still to be finished, however, at present they are looking great. The workshop and mess facilities are massively upgraded which should make everybodys life better.

Here's hoping our season continues in the way that it has started. The first 4 days have been busy.

Also, look out for our next new station, Greenway Halt, opening soon. I think we got our stations on Buy One Get One Free!

Where is Greenway Halt? Is it on the Kingswear or Churston side of the tunnel?
