Thanks for the videos, the run was very successful, the only panic being a problem with, I believe, the points on the triangle that needed unclipping. The only 'qualified' unclipper was many miles away, Liverpool was mentioned. So although we arrived soon after 1pm, the loco only finally made it round the triangle shortly before our departure time of 16.48, hence we departed a few minutes down.

The train caused a bit of a problem at Southport in the evening as it arrived in platform 5 and blocked the points preventing the 21.23 service train to Manchester Vic leaving from platform 6. As a result, the latter train had to wait until the ECS departed at about 21.45 and followed it to Wigan, resulting in about a 30 minute late arrival in Manchester.

Passengers on the service train seemed to take the delay in good spirits and it didn't seen to be causing anyone any major problems. The conductor was very good as he came round and offered the usual of his mobile if anybody needed to contact anyone. Having said that, he did blame the delay on the steam train, which although true, it was really down to the signaller messing up and allowing the railtour into the platform and blocking the service train (which should have left 5 minutes before the tour arrived).

As we pulled in I was surprised to see that we were going in a different platform, and as I walked down the platform a bit later I passed the Conductor telling some passengers that it was the steam trains fault. I commented to him and the passengers that the fault lay with the signaller putting us into the platform that blocked their exit. Our driver/crew could not be held responsible for their error.

I woulden't worry what a few normals 99% of whom would have no involvement with Mainline steam think/are told, at the end of the day the NR log will show it as Signallers cock up.

Not the first of the day as it happened. Someone forgot that we were to water in the Eccles loop.

It's getting bad when such duties get in the way a quick trip out to see steam in your area.......

Pretty good tour. Disappointed the 47 pushed up Miles Platting but oh well. Hopefully the fact it sold out so early means the future looking good for more tours out of SPT. Hopefully though we get some variation in the destinations. A trip up the Welsh Marches could be interesting, especially with 48151 ;-)
